Job Summary:
The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) will perform routine and specialized medical laboratory tests to provide data for use in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct clinical laboratory tests in areas such as chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, bacteriology, serology, parasitology, and blood banking.
Perform specimen collection, preparation, and processing according to established procedures.
Operate, calibrate, and perform routine maintenance on diagnostic laboratory equipment.
Ensure accurate and timely recording of test results in the laboratory information system.
Identify and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and initiate repairs when necessary.
Conduct minor maintenance and calibration of diagnostic equipment.
Maintain records including logs, files, and reports in compliance with laboratory policies.
Perform quality control checks to ensure the reliability of test results.
Comply with all hospital policies and procedures, including infection control and safety practices.
Communicate test results effectively to physicians or designated healthcare providers.
Participate in continuing education to maintain competency and licensure requirements.
Must-Have Qualifications:
Education:
Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution.
Completion of an in-service training program in a Medical Laboratory Assistant Program accredited by the American Medical Association; OR
Two years of experience in a medical laboratory under the direct supervision of a medical laboratory technician, medical technologist, or physician.
Certifications/Licensure:
National certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT).
West Virginia Clinical Laboratory Technician Licensure and Certification.
Experience:
Minimum of one year of in-service training in a recognized medical laboratory assistant program OR two years of experience in a medical laboratory environment.
Skills:
Proficiency in laboratory techniques and equipment operation.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols accurately.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting physicians' or supervisors' orders for specific testing requirements.Company Description
