Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Pipeline Construction Superintendent with expertise in natural gas pipeline construction. This role is responsible for managing field operations, supervising crews, and ensuring that all work is performed according to design specifications, regulatory requirements, and safety standards. The Superintendent will play a key role in delivering projects safely, on time, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee all phases of natural gas pipeline construction, including ROW clearing, trenching, pipe stringing, welding, coating, lowering-in, backfilling, and tie-ins.
Lead daily site operations to ensure productivity, safety, and quality standards are met.
Enforce strict adherence to natural gas safety standards, including PHMSA and DOT regulations.
Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, and subcontractors for optimal efficiency.
Conduct pre-job planning, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and daily toolbox talks.
Maintain open communication with the Project Manager to report progress, issues, and resource needs.
Ensure all construction activities follow engineering drawings, technical specs, and applicable codes.
Monitor hydrostatic testing, pigging, and commissioning operations as needed.
Maintain detailed records of labor, production, and incidents; provide daily reports.
Identify and resolve issues that may impact schedule or safety in real time.
Support environmental compliance and landowner coordination as needed.
Develop and maintain customer relationships.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management or a related field preferred.
Minimum 7+ years of experience in pipeline construction with a strong focus on natural gas infrastructure.
At least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role on gas pipeline projects.
Working knowledge of DOT 192, API 1104, ASME B31.8, and other relevant codes.
Proven ability to lead large field crews and interface with inspectors, engineers, and stakeholders.
Strong understanding of environmental, safety, and right-of-way issues specific to gas pipeline work.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and construction management software.
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to remote job sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, and Operator Qualification (OQ) certification.
Experience with HDD, boring, and river/road crossings.
Familiarity with SCADA integration, valve installations, and gas facility tie-ins..
