Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Principal Information Engineer to provide full-time remote support for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). The successful candidate will operate, maintain, and enhance the agency’s IT infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, security, and compliance with federal IT standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Infrastructure Management:
Operate and maintain a complex IT environment including EMC SAN, F5 Load Balancers, VMware vSphere, Nutanix, and HP Blade Servers.
Manage virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere, Horizon View VDI, vCenter Operations Manager, Nutanix Prism).
Oversee backup and disaster recovery solutions using tools such as Symantec NetBackup, Acronis, Commvault, Veeam, and EMC RecoverPoint.
Network & Security:
Configure and manage VPN technologies including SonicWall Aventail, Checkpoint VPN, and WatchGuard.
Support network operations using SolarWinds Orion, Symantec Altiris, Shavlik tools, GFI Languard, and Goverlan.
Assist in meeting government security audit requirements.
Deploy and manage antivirus/anti-malware solutions including Trend Micro Deep Security and Cylance.
System Administration:
Administer Windows Server environments (2008, 2012, 2016) including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, GPO, RDS.
Implement server updates/patches using WSUS, GFI Languard, VMware Update Manager, and Shavlik.
Design and support VMware Horizon View VDI infrastructure.
Administer cloud environments as an AWS administrator.
Data Center & Equipment Management:
Perform rack management for SANs, servers, and appliances.
Configure networking hardware including Brocade SAN switches, HP C-GbE2, Cisco 3020, and Aruba Wireless.
Asset & Service Management:
Maintain software and hardware inventories using ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus and Asset Explorer.
Implement automated asset discovery via agent-based and agentless methods.
Provide documentation for Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Vendor & Stakeholder Collaboration:
Coordinate with vendors and consultants for network implementation, optimization, and ongoing support.
Qualifications:
7+ years of experience in IT infrastructure and systems engineering roles.
Expertise in VMware, SAN/NAS storage, and enterprise backup technologies.
Strong understanding of Windows server administration, networking, and security.
Experience with AWS administration and virtualization technologies (VMware, Nutanix).
Familiarity with federal IT compliance and audit processes.
Proficient in managing service desk and asset management platforms.
Excellent documentation and communication skills.
Preferred Certifications:
VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
AWS Certified Solutions Architect or equivalent
Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)
