Immediate W2 contract position available in Birmingham, AL (Hybrid: 4 office, 1 remote).

Estimated Duration: 3 years

Job Summary:

The Director of Business Development for Data Centers oversees how Company manages its interactions with leaders in the Data Center industry, such as hyperscalers, colocation providers, and other developers.

This position is designed to enhance coordination across the Southern system and assist operating companies (OpCos) in capitalizing on growth opportunities and establish Company as the leader in the industry.

This role focuses on several critical aspects:

Streamline the relationship management process for hyperscalers, colocation and data center developers for the benefit of all operating companies.

More effective system coordination on leveraging data center growth opportunity for all operating companies and all customers.

Supporting OpCo teams on the recruitment and associated strategies to site, price, forecast and serve these customers.

Facilitate company playing a leading role in the industry for partnership and collaboration with Data Center and Technology Companies.

A Project Manager with 5 to 10 years of experience is a key contributor to the successful execution of projects within an organization.

Their role involves leading project teams, managing budgets, and ensuring that projects are completed on time, within scope, and on budget.

They play a vital role in delivering value to the organization and its stakeholders.

Desired Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as project management, business, or a technical discipline.

Project Management Professional (PMP) or other relevant certifications are a plus.

5-10 years of experience in project management, with a proven track record of successful project delivery.

A Project Manager with 5 to 10 years of experience is responsible for planning, executing, and closing projects within an organization.

They work with cross-functional teams to ensure that projects are completed successfully, on time, within scope, and on budget.

Proficiency in project management software and tools.

Advanced understanding of project management methodologies, including Agile or Scrum.

Strong leadership and team management skills.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities.

Advanced organizational and time management skills.

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field; an MBA or equivalent is strongly preferred.

Minimum of 10 years' experience in business development, strategic planning, and relationship management, with at least 5 years specifically within the data center or technology industry.

Demonstrated success in developing and executing business strategies that have materially increased company revenue and market presence.

Deep understanding of the energy sector's intersection with technology, particularly with respect to data center operations and energy consumption trends.

Extensive knowledge of regulatory environments, energy markets, and the nuances of utility operations.

Proven negotiation skills with a history of successful deal-making and partnership development.

Exceptional leadership qualities with the ability to inspire and manage cross-functional teams.

Strong analytical skills with the capacity to assess complex market dynamics and respond with innovative solutions.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical and business concepts to diverse stakeholder groups.

Willingness to travel as required to meet business objectives and build industry relationships.

Major Job Responsibilities:

Act as the primary liaison for hyperscalers and co-location/developers and coordinating Company's approach to relationship management in the data center market.

Serve as the initial point of contact during the recruitment/development phase, working closely with OpCo economic development and customer solutions teams, and remaining engaged throughout the process.

Coordinate partnerships and convene long-term planning discussions with hyperscalers to align on objectives and develop compelling propositions.

Collaborate with Generation, System Planning, External Affairs, and Finance teams to:

Develop short and long-term clean energy pathways.

Modernize transmission and distribution construction processes for the data center market.

Incorporate pricing products into the regulatory agenda.

Develop a comapny-wide pricing philosophy that aligns with our risk position.

Monitor and evaluate our risk proposition as the market and technology evolve, seeking support for federal tools to support digital transformation.

Partner with Customer Solutions and System Planning to develop a sustainability/carbon-free energy strategy.

Provide a cost-effective method for ensuring continuity and focus across the system, both internally and externally.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Planning:

Develop comprehensive project plans, including defining project scope, objectives, timelines, and resource requirements.

Team Leadership:

Assemble project teams, assign responsibilities, and lead cross-functional teams to achieve project goals.

Provide guidance and direction to team members.

Budget Management:

Develop and manage project budgets, tracking expenses, and ensuring that projects stay within budgetary constraints.

Scope Management:

Define project scope and monitor changes to ensure that the project stays within its original parameters.

Document and communicate scope changes as necessary.

Risk Assessment:

Identify potential project risks and develop risk mitigation plans.

Proactively address issues and challenges as they arise.

Timeline Management:

Create project schedules and timelines, and monitor progress to ensure that projects are completed on time.

Implement advanced project management methodologies to streamline processes.

Stakeholder Communication:

Maintain regular communication with project stakeholders, keeping them informed of project progress and addressing their concerns.

Quality Assurance:

Implement quality control processes to ensure that project deliverables meet established standards and specifications.

Documentation:

Maintain accurate project documentation, including project plans, status reports, and project closure reports.

Issue Resolution:

Address project issues and conflicts, and work with team members to find solutions.

Escalate issues to senior management when necessary.

Project Closure:

Ensure that all project objectives are met, and that projects are closed effectively, including obtaining sign-off from stakeholders and conducting post-project evaluations.Company Description
