CLA is growing and seeking to hire an experienced Manager of Data Engineering to join our talented Information Technology team. The position offers growth, flexibility and a collaborative work environment.

The Manager of Data Engineering leads a blended team of full-time and contract engineers to deliver secure, high-value data pipelines, integrations, and analytics platforms that power enterprise insight and advance organization-wide initiatives. Acting as both people leader and technical steward, the role coaches talent, steers high-level solution design, and aligns team capacity with an evolving backlog in partnership with Data Product Owners, while coordinating with Data Operations to hand off production-ready, fully documented assets. It also upholds data-governance, quality, security, and privacy standards, drives cross-team communities of practice, and manages key vendor relationships—amplifying CLA’s ability to turn raw data into timely, strategic advantage.
How you’ll create opportunities in this Manager of Data Engineering role:
People Leadership & Talent Development: Recruits, onboards, mentors, and develops a blended team of full-time and contract data engineers; cultivates an inclusive, collaborative culture that prizes continuous learning and knowledge sharing; and continuously aligns team skills, interests, and capacity with business priorities—removing roadblocks so work is delivered on time and on budget.
Strategy & Planning: Partners closely with Data Product Owners and Scrum Masters to shape, sequence, and re-evaluate backlog priorities so efforts remain aligned with client commitments and strategic goals, while championing robust data-governance, quality, security, and privacy practices that satisfy regulations.
Technical Guidance & Execution Oversight: Maintains active visibility into day-to-day engineering work—joining key design discussions, validating technical approaches at a high level, aligning resources, and clearing impediments—while empowering engineers to own the code; ensures all releases and platform changes comply with the firm’s SDLC, change-management, automation, and testing standards.
Operational Excellence: Coordinates closely with the Data Operations team to ensure every new integration, pipeline, or analytics product is production-ready, fully documented, and accompanied by support runbooks and hand-off checklists; tracks high-level reliability and cost KPIs through this partnership; and manages vendor relationships and Statements of Work in collaboration with Procurement and Legal.
Cross-Team Collaboration & Community Building: Guides engineering solutions toward prioritized business needs in partnership with Data Product Owners, escalates blockers, and aligns on trade-offs; coordinates with peer Data Engineering managers to keep standards, processes, and documentation consistent across scrum teams; and leads communities of practice, brown-bag sessions, and cross-functional working groups with Analytics, Security, and Infrastructure to spread best practices and shared learnings.
Organizational Interfaces: This role reports to the Manager of Data Engineering. Works closely with Data Operations, IT Operations, Product Owners, Project Managers, and IT Leadership.
What you will need:
7 years of relevant experience required.
Bachelor's degree or a combination of relevant experience and training may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Technical Competencies:
Extensive experience with both logical and physical database design utilizing technologies such as MS SQL, Postgres.
Big Data technologies: Azure Datalake, Data Bricks and Data Factories.
Well versed in API, Integration and ETL processes. Fluent in SQL and SSIS. Familiar with other tech programing language such as Java, Python or MS.Net.
