The School of Computer and Information Sciences at the University of the Cumberlands invites applications for the position of Program Director for Artificial Intelligence Programs. This leadership role will oversee all AI-related academic offerings at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. Under the direction of the Dean of the School of Computer and Information Sciences, the Program Director will be responsible for academic oversight, curriculum innovation, faculty leadership, program assessment, and the overall success of students enrolled in AI programs. The Program Director will also work closely with other Program Directors within the School of CIS to ensure alignment, integration, and innovation across disciplines.
Responsibilities as Program Director will include:
Provide academic leadership for all Artificial Intelligence programs across the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels.
Design, assess, and enhance AI curricula to reflect current industry and research advancements.
Recruit, hire, develop, and supervise faculty across all program levels.
Promote effective teaching, learning, and faculty development practices.
Coordinate course offerings, teaching assignments, and faculty schedules.
Oversee academic quality assurance, learning outcomes assessment, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Manage program budgets and allocate resources efficiently.
Support student recruitment, advising, retention, and career development.
Build and maintain relationships with industry leaders and academic partners to inform and support program growth.
Represent the AI programs at university functions and in external engagements.
Collaborate regularly with other Program Directors within the School of CIS to promote interdisciplinary learning, resource sharing, and academic consistency.
Contribute to strategic planning and school-wide initiatives as directed by the Chair and Vice President of Academic Affairs
Job Qualifications:
Doctorate in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
Experience leading academic programs, ideally across multiple degree levels.
Proven teaching record in higher education, with a preference for experience in both online and in-person environments.
Knowledge of current AI tools, trends, ethical considerations, and applications.
Demonstrated ability to manage faculty teams and support professional development.
Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Experience working collaboratively with peers, especially within multi-program academic departments.
U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required.
Professional certifications related to AI or data science are a plus.
