Position Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Truss Designer to join our design team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating structural truss designs using specialized software to meet customer specifications, building codes, and engineering standards. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of wood or metal truss systems, structural design principles, and be able to work in a fast-paced environment with a high degree of accuracy.

Key Responsibilities:

Design roof and floor truss systems based on architectural and structural plans, engineering specifications, and customer requirements.

Use specialized software (e.g., MiTek, Alpine, or similar) to model and generate truss layouts, shop drawings, and material cut lists.

Interpret construction blueprints, specifications, and local building codes to ensure accurate designs.

Provide technical support and design clarification to sales, production, and customers.

Coordinate with architects, engineers, builders, and internal departments to resolve design challenges.

Ensure that all designs meet structural integrity standards, safety codes, and cost-efficiency goals.

Review and revise designs based on feedback, site conditions, or updated project information.

Maintain organized project records and documentation throughout the design and production process.

Meet production timelines and respond quickly to change orders or urgent design requests.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in drafting, construction technology, engineering, or a related field preferred.

1–3 years of experience in truss design, structural drafting, or a related construction/design role.

Proficiency with truss design software such as MiTek, Alpine, or Simpson Strong-Tie design tools.

Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural plans.

Knowledge of construction practices, building materials, and local building codes.

Strong math and spatial reasoning skills.

Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.

Attention to detail and commitment to design accuracy and safety.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with residential, commercial, or agricultural truss design.

Familiarity with engineered wood products and framing techniques.

Knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit) is a plus.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at once.
