Job Summary/Description:

KBTX is looking for an experienced, passionate sports journalist to join our award-winning team and fight for great, local sports stories.

KBTX is the long-time leader in local sports, and this position puts you at the center of it all. You’ll produce, report for, and anchor sportscasts that go beyond predictable highlights and profiles, sharing stories of success and empowerment that resonate across the Brazos Valley. With sports features, you’ll regularly showcase the community’s heartwarming, inspiring, outrageous, and unusual stories. An ideal candidate will be comfortable independently enterprising content and using their storytelling skills to offer meaningful context to sports news. You’ll also take an active role in our EMMY-winning live Aggie football pregame show, Aggie Gameday, and our high school football productions, including award-winning Friday Football Fever.

You’re joining a team of exceptional journalists who are committed to our community and work to make it better, both on and off camera.

Duties/Responsibilities are included but not limited to:

• Researching and creating daily content for television, social, and web platforms, including dynamic live shots and packages

• Identifying and enterprising relevant local feature stories

• Meeting daily and weekly deadlines in a fast-paced environment

• Taking an active role in seasonal KBTX productions, including Aggie Gameday and Friday Football Fever

• Creating and facilitating working relationships with the local sports community

• Developing feature franchise content, which may require travel and time outside of a standard workday

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Candidates should also exhibit a good work ethic, strong people skills, the ability to be a team player, and work flexibly. This position may require holiday work.

• A minimum of three years of experience in broadcast sports, as well as a college degree in broadcast journalism or a related field, is expected.

• Experience with ENPS or Sony XPRI non-linear editing software is a big plus.
