Job Description

This position is hybrid and will be required to be in office two times per month for collaboration working sessions.

Job Summary

A Data Engineer III is responsible for designing, building, and optimizing complex data systems and automated data processing solutions that support the organization’s data analytics and business intelligence needs. The Data Engineer III implements and maintains operational and analytical databases and data processes. They identify data sources, define source-to-target mappings, and design and build databases as well as ETL/ELT data loads. They also adhere to standards and design/coding principles when implementing robust solutions.

The role targets solutions by executing business logic to process data in support of operational and reporting needs, as well as moving data between internal and external systems as required. The day to day execution of the position includes developing and maintaining batch jobs and schedules, stored procedures, data pipelines, and scripts. The Data Engineer III utilizes multiple technologies, including Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Azure, EventHub, Stream Analytics, SnapLogic, ActiveBatch, T-SQL, PowerShell, and Python.

Job Duties

Design, develop, and maintain scalable data processes that support ETL/ELT loads of multiple sources of data into data warehouses, data lakes and transactional databases.

Ensure batch jobs and data processes are efficient, reliable, and meet performance requirements.

Integrate data from various sources, including internal systems, external APIs, files, streaming and third-party services.

Implement complex data architectures, including data warehouses, data lakes, and real-time data processing systems.

Develop data models and integration frameworks that align with organizational requirements.

Review technical designs, code, and implementations to ensure adherence to best practices and high-quality standards.

Participates in project team standups and reports status updates.

Implement solutions using relational and massively parallel databases, understanding how to efficiently process large data sets using appropriate storage options.

Implement advanced optimization techniques, such as indexing, partitioning, and query tuning, to ensure high performance and reliability of data systems.

Implements database solutions and ensures quality assurance and timely delivery of data.

Investigates, troubleshoots and corrects data and user related system errors, and ensures data integrity.

Implement and enforce data quality standards and validation processes into solutions.

Develop and maintain documentation for batch jobs including database and ETL/ELT.

Participates in the Oncall developer rotation respond to batch failures and alerts by trouble shooting and advising data operations team to resolve failures.

Contributes to support an IT roadmap that is forward thinking and sets the groundwork for reducing maintenance cost while meeting or exceeding business objectives.

Promotes a constructive, positive team environment and maintains a spirit of openness, information sharing inquisitiveness, problem-solving and support for common goals.

Collaborates with cross-functional teams.

Ensures compliance with Exeter’s policies & procedures, safety, state and federal laws, regulations and standards.

Experience

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a related field of study.

4-6 years of job-related experience. 4+ years of job-related experience preferred.

High level of proficiency in Microsoft Transact-SQL required with programming/scripting in PowerShell, C#, Python, etc.

Knowledge of databases and development and design methodology required.

Knowledge and experience with cloud technologies, data lakes, and data ingest and pipeline technologies a plus.

Experience with data engineering tools and platforms for ETL, data processing, and data integration a plus.

Familiarity with cloud-based data services and big data technologies a plus.

Familiarity with enterprise job schedulers a plus.

Familiarity with the auto finance industry a plus.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex data issues.

Good communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with data scientists, analysts, and other team members.

Detail-oriented with a focus on data accuracy, quality, and performance in a large database environment.
