About the Team
STR’s Analytics Division develops novel solutions to the most challenging national security problems through advanced analytics and software. Our teams consist of motivated individuals with degrees in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, and data science. We have experienced managers who have led large, complex teams in delivering solutions to some of the Defense Department’s greatest challenges and have extensive knowledge of the various combat domains. The Mission Applications (MA) Group in the Analytics Division develops and deploys software-intensive mission capabilities to defense and intelligence customers, leveraging technologies from STR research and development (R&D) groups, while matrixing in significant numbers of engineering staff from those groups. Staff organic to the Mission Applications Group will have skills specifically targeting transition of technology to operational use, including program management, integration engineering at customer sites, and DevSecOps.
The Role:
As a Lead DevOps Engineer, you will work as part of tightly knit Agile software teams to design and implement Continuous Integration/ Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines utilizing GitLab or other CI/CD systems. This includes:
Supporting Amazon Web Services (AWS) toolsets in an unclassified environment;
Maintaining multiple CI/CD environments at multiple classification levels where AWS is not available;
Configuring CI/CD environments for application performance, security monitoring, and alerting;
Acting as a point person with the corporate IT organization to ensure that infrastructure toolsets are configured, maintained, reliable, and in compliance with Department of Defense standards; and
Advocating for and educating engineers on DevOps fundamentals while helping to implement solid software development processes.
This role will take advantage of STR’s flexible, hybrid environment – when the work does not require use of STR’s facilities, you are welcome to work remotely.
Who You Are:
This position requires an active secret clearance, for which U.S. citizenship is needed by U.S. Government
BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related technical field
Minimum of 5-7+ years relevant experience depending on degree (BS +7 years)
Experience with all relevant technologies including:
CI/CD tools (Gitlab) and pipeline automation
cloud platforms (such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud), and automated provisioning tools (such as Ansible, Chef, TerraForm)
containerization technologies such as Docker and Podman
Kubernetes management solutions such as EKS and Rancher
Experience deploying, and monitoring Kubernetes clusters and pod configurations
Basic knowledge of Linux System Administration
Knowledge of Python and Linux Shell
Knowledge of Cyber Security fundamentals
Organized, detail-oriented, and with an ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Demonstrated experience as an effective communicator to both technical and non-technical audiences

Active Top Secret (TS) security clearance
Advanced Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related technical field
Experience in:
full web-service stack, including databases, logging, and monitoring
project tracking tools such as Jira
designing, deploying, and monitoring Kafka clusters
deploying and maintaining artifact repositories (such as Nexus, Artifactory)
deploying and configuring static and dynamic code analysis tools (such as SonarQube, Coverity).
leading teams in an Agile/SCRUM software development process
