Our client, a prestigious Am Law 100 firm, is seeking an experienced Managing Clerk to lead and expand a newly centralized Managing Clerk’s Office (MCO) across its U.S. locations. This key leadership position will oversee all aspects of court filings, ensure procedural compliance, mentor docketing professionals, and drive innovation in litigation support services.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience as a Managing or Deputy Managing Clerk/Attorney, with broad jurisdictional expertise and demonstrated leadership in docketing and litigation support.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Operations
Design and lead the MCO function across multiple offices
Collaborate with practice group leadership to assess needs and implement scalable solutions
Partner with the Office of General Counsel to identify and mitigate procedural risks
Oversee and mentor the Court & Calendar team, delegate responsibilities, and support staff development
Align strategy with the current Senior Manager of Court & Calendar
Develop training programs on civil procedure, e-filing, and jurisdictional requirements
Produce regular reports on filing activity and deadline compliance
Court Filings & Procedural Support
Manage electronic and physical court filings across federal and state jurisdictions
Coordinate with local counsel and external filing vendors
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of procedural rules and filing platforms (e.g., PACER, NYSCEF)
Develop and implement standard operating procedures for multi-jurisdictional filings
Calendar & Compliance
Oversee comprehensive calendaring of deadlines, statutes of limitation, and filing schedules
Lead initiatives to improve technology and processes, enhancing both efficiency and accuracy
Innovation & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Champion process improvement efforts and cross-functional initiatives that enhance legal service delivery
Evaluate and implement technological and operational upgrades to support the firm’s litigation practices
Qualifications
JD required
4+ years as a Managing Clerk/Attorney, or 8+ years as a Deputy Managing Clerk/Attorney at a multi-office law firm
At least 15 years of hands-on experience with court filings and procedural rules
Proven supervisory experience in a legal environment
Expertise in electronic filing systems (e.g., PACER, NYSCEF) and docketing software (e.g., CompuLaw, LegalKEY)
Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills
Ability to manage competing priorities, perform under pressure, and remain available after hours when needed
