Job Summary: We are seeking a highly experienced ICSS Functional Test Procedure Development Engineer with a strong background in oil and gas and commissioning projects.
This role will be based at our Kent office in Qatar.
Responsibilities: Design, development, and documentation of comprehensive functional test procedures for various ICSS components, including but not limited to IPCS, SIS, SIF, GDS, PECS Logic/interlocks, and complex loops, PECS SIS, PECS SIF, ESD Logic, adhering to relevant industry standards.
Conduct thorough reviews and in-depth analysis of project specifications, detailed ICSS architecture diagrams, comprehensive control system philosophies, critical cause and effect matrices, intricate loop diagrams, detailed instrument datasheets, and comprehensive vendor documentation.
This process is crucial to gain a complete understanding of the intended system functionality, operational requirements, and specific testing mandates for each project.
Proactively identify and define the essential functional tests that are necessary to rigorously verify the correct and reliable operation of complex control logic, critical safety interlocks, accurate alarm functions, seamless communication integrity across the ICSS network, and the overall integrated performance of the entire system under various operational scenarios.
Meticulously ensure that all developed functional test procedures are in strict compliance with all relevant international and industry standards as well as adhering to stringent company policies, robust safety regulations, and established best practices within the oil and gas sector.
Foster strong and collaborative working relationships with ICSS design engineers, proactive project managers, and other key stakeholders within the project teams.
This close collaboration is essential for effectively clarifying design intent, proactively addressing any technical queries that may arise, and ultimately ensuring the inherent testability of the designed ICSS from the outset of the project lifecycle.
Actively participate in critical Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies and thorough Safety Integrity Level (SIL) verification workshops.
This engagement allows for the early identification and seamless incorporation of specific testing requirements related to safety-critical functions directly into the functional test procedures, ensuring the highest levels of safety integrity.
Define and document clear, unambiguous, and measurable acceptance criteria for each individual test step outlined in the functional test procedures.
These objective criteria are essential for enabling a consistent and reliable evaluation of the test results, ultimately facilitating a clear and auditable determination of system acceptance.
Prepare comprehensive and well-organized test documentation throughout the testing lifecycle.
This includes the development of detailed test plans outlining the testing strategy, meticulously documenting test reports capturing the results of each test, and diligently managing deviation reports to track and resolve any identified discrepancies or non-conformances.
Furthermore, ensure the proper completion and sign-off of all relevant test documentation upon successful completion.
Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation and Control Engineering with a strong emphasis on automation, or a closely related engineering discipline.
A minimum of 10+ years of demonstrable and progressive experience in the functional testing and commissioning of Integrated Control and Safety Systems (ICSS) within the oil and gas industry, with a significant portion of that experience focused on procedure development.
In-depth knowledge of ICSS architectures (e.g., Emerson Delta V, Siemens, Honeywell, ABB, Schneider Electric), communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP), and associated software tools.
Strong understanding of process control principles, safety instrumented systems (SIS), and relevant industry standards.
Proven experience in developing and executing comprehensive functional test procedures for complex ICSS applications.
Familiarity with P&IDs, control narratives, cause and effect matrices, and safety requirements specifications.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills related to ICSS functionality.
Outstanding technical writing and documentation skills, with a demonstrated ability to independently produce clear, concise, accurate, and comprehensive functional test procedures, detailed test reports, and other essential technical documentation.
Proven ability to accurately interpret complex engineering drawings and documentation, including Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), intricate loop diagrams, detailed control system logic diagrams (e.g., function block diagrams, ladder logic), and complex cause and effect matrices.
Experience in participating in FAT and SAT activities is highly desirable.
