Job Title: Adjunct Professor Classification: Faculty Division: Academic Affairs Department: Sociology & Criminal Justice Reports: Chair of Sociology & Criminal Justice FLSA Status: Salaried, Exempt JOB SUMMARY: Conducts University courses for undergraduate students by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Responsible for teaching during the fall and spring semesters.
* Responsible for teaching Intro to Sociology in the fall and spring semesters.
* Prepares and delivers lectures to students.
* Compiles bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading assignments.
* Stimulates class discussion.
* Compiles, administers, and grades examinations, or assigns this work to others.
* All other relevant duties as assigned.
EDUCATION: * Master's required, Ph.D.
preferred.
EXPERIENCE: * A minimum of two years teaching experience in a higher education setting.
QUALIFICATIONS: * Must be able to work with little or no supervision.
* Must be able to make decisions supporting the department's mission and goals.
* Must be able to handle multiple tasks and projects and prioritize based on departmental functionality.
* Must have excellent communication skills, oral and written.
* Must have interpersonal skills, and the ability to work within a culturally diverse organization.
* Must have a high level of professional appearance and demeanor.
* Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is primarily performed in a university campus environment and requires a flexible schedule including evening and weekend work.
Travel for administrative work is expected.
The employee is subject to inside environmental conditions: protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Moderate lifting up to 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and body mobility to stoop, kneel, bend and reach.
