POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Audio/Visual Technician provides as-needed technical support to the Theater & AV Projects Manager, assisting with film projection and coordinating audio/visual requirements during museum rentals, public programs, and internal events. This per diem position will be cross-trained in select responsibilities of the Theater & AV Projects Manager to offer support and coverage during assigned events.
Essential Responsibilities:
Movie Projection:
Operate digital projection equipment for film screenings.
Ensure the highest quality image and sound presentation.
Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting of projection equipment.
Lighting Console Operation:
Program and operate the lighting console for theatrical performances, lectures, and special events.
Work with event organizers to implement appropriate lighting designs.
Assist with the setup and breakdown of lighting equipment as needed.
Audio Console Operation:
Set up and operate audio equipment for live events, including microphones, speakers, and mixing consoles.
Deliver clear and balanced sound for all presentations.
Identify and resolve audio issues during events when necessary.
General Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the technical team during assigned events to ensure smooth operations.
Assist with equipment setup and breakdown before and after events.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Follow all safety protocols and operational guidelines.
Provide excellent customer service to guests, staff, and rental clients.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Experience or training in digital film projection, lighting console operation, and live audio setup in theater or event environments.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Familiarity with digital projection systems.
Proficiency with lighting and sound equipment used in live performance or presentation settings.
Strong troubleshooting and attention-to-detail skills.
Ability to work a flexible, event-based schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
Physical ability to lift and move equipment as necessary.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Climate controlled art museum with display galleries, standard offices, cafeĢ, library/archives, theater, museum shop, and other non-public spaces. Work is performed primarily indoors, within the theater environment. Compliance with Museum health and safety-related protocols is required.
Physical Demands
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to work on their feet and/or remain in a stationary position for long periods of time.
Operates tools and equipment.
Operates a computer and other office equipment.
Frequently communicates with staff and others and must be able to exchange accurate information.

WORK SCHEDULE
This is a per diem, event-based position with hours assigned at the discretion of the Theater & AV Projects Manager. Work hours will vary and may include evenings and weekends. There is no guaranteed minimum number of hours. Due to the nature of the responsibilities, this position is not suitable for remote work.
