JOB TITLE: Event & Volunteer Coordinator
PRIMARY PURPOSE: Planning and implementing recreational events at Dickerson Park Zoo as well as coordinate and communicate with Friends of the Zoo volunteers.
SUPERVISION: Under general supervision of FOZ Public Relations and Marketing Director. Supervises volunteers including Zoo Ambassadors and interns within the department.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
1. Works with zoo staff to plan, develop, promote and implement zoo special events. Evaluates and restructures current events as appropriate, and researches and develops new events. Coordinates internal activities to bring projects to fruition.
2. Prepares post-event evaluations including expenses and income, attendance, volunteer hours, logistics and other concerns for management.
3. Provides event details to Public Relations & Marketing Director to facilitate publicity campaigns.
4. Schedules volunteers to staff zoo events and maintains time records.
5. Coordinates postings of zoo activity boards with current and coming attractions for zoo guests.
6. Coordinates activities associated with guest experiences such as: after hours buyouts, daytime rentals and Animal RendeZoos.
7. Participates in appropriate community and professional organizations to further expose the zoo to the community while enhancing professional skills.
8. Communicate with volunteers utilizing e-news newsletters as well as written communication as needed.
9. Ability to use Better Impact volunteer software to track volunteer hours for Springfield-Greene County Park Board and annual Volunteer Banquet.
10. Present service awards to volunteers at FOZ annual Volunteer Banquet along with coordinating with other volunteer advisors at DPZ for this event.
11. Work with conservation education director on scheduling docents for zoo events.
12. Work with conservation education director on Volunteer Trainings.
13. Lead set up and take down of special events materials and supplies.
14. Attend and prepare oral/written reports for monthly board meetings (FOZ and Park Board) as needed.
15. Related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE:

Basic skills of knowledge of standard office equipment (computer, volunteer database program, Excel, etc.)

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND TRAINING:
Bachelors degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Recreation or a related field of study is preferred but not required. Involvement in appropriate professional development and community organizations and participation in conferences, seminars and workshops encouraged.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Performs bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing and reaching to both ground level and overhead.
Lifts, carries, pushes and pulls up to 50 pounds for items such as decorations, props and equipment.
Drives utility vehicles, golf carts.
Walks the zoo grounds and standing for long periods.
Possesses manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work divided between heated/cooled indoor office and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Some work may be performed remotely, with approval of supervisor.
Workweek is 40 hours with a flexible work schedule to accommodate evening and weekend meetings and activities as required. Nights and weekends will be needed for events.
