Manager, Patient Care Services – OB/PEDS Unit

Position Summary:
The Manager of Patient Care Services for the OB/PEDS unit is a dynamic nurse leader responsible for ensuring the highest standards of care and patient safety. The Nurse Manager will lead with a strong foundation in communication, clinical knowledge, operational leadership, professionalism, and business skills.
In this role, you will guide nursing staff in delivering evidence-based, patient-centered care. You will also provide crisis leadership at the bedside when necessary, making recent OB and Pediatrics clinical experience essential.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Participate in shared governance and policy decision-making processes that affect nursing practice.
Ensure quality, compassionate care is delivered in accordance with individual patient rights and preferences.
Provide clinical oversight and coordination of nursing services in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
Lead unit staffing and scheduling, taking into account scope of practice, competencies, patient needs, and care complexity.
Provide orientation and mentorship for new staff, and conduct regular performance evaluations for nursing personnel.
Develop, manage, and monitor departmental budgets, ensuring operational efficiency.
Promote a culture of evidence-based practice and actively involve nursing staff in quality improvement and research activities.
Foster transparent and continuous communication, offering staff a safe space to raise issues and seek guidance.
Be available to transition into bedside care or unit leadership in a crisis.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) or Bachelor of Science (BS) from an accredited institution.
(Candidates with an associate degree/diploma in nursing may be considered with 5+ years of relevant experience; BSN must be completed within 3–5 years of hire.)
Active RN license in the State of Michigan – Required
BLS Certification – Required
Recent clinical experience in both Obstetrics and Pediatrics – Required
(Candidate must be capable of transitioning to the bedside in a clinical crisis.)
Demonstrated leadership or middle management experience – Required
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) or a related healthcare field –required
Specialty certification in OB, Pediatrics, or Nursing Leadership
Professional Competencies:

Deep understanding of the healthcare environment and clinical operations
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Financial acumen and ability to manage department budgets
Passion for mentoring and staff development
