Our client seeks a creative and driven Design Engineer to join our growing Engineering team in Waterloo, Iowa. In this high-impact role, youll play a key part in shaping the next generation of our products, taking concepts from initial sketch to functional reality. Youll lead multiple early-stage product development projects, translating customer needs into innovative, manufacturable solutions.
As a core contributor in the product lifecycle, youll collaborate across departments, from prototype through testing, refinement, and final handoff to operations. What Youll Do:
Lead Design Projects: Own and manage 37 active product development initiatives at varying stages, from concept through to production.
Develop & Refine Concepts: Use advanced CAD tools to bring innovative ideas to life, focusing on functionality, manufacturability, and performance.
Solve Engineering Challenges: Apply critical thinking to troubleshoot design issues, evaluate alternatives, and optimize solutions.
Ensure Compliance & Quality: Design products that meet all internal standards and external regulations, with complete and accurate documentation for ISO quality compliance.
Drive Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, operations, and prototyping teams to support builds, testing, and integration.
Execute with Precision: Create detailed models, drawings, and reports; review technical data for accuracy and completeness.
Support Testing & Validation: Perform worst-case analysis, support prototype testing, and apply findings to improve final designs.
What You Bring:
Education:
Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field (required).
Experience:
Minimum of 4 years of experience in design engineering, focusing on new product development.
Experience in motion control or motion system design is highly preferred.
Hands-on familiarity with manufacturing ERP systems and design documentation processes.
Skills & Competencies:
Advanced CAD proficiency (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and cross-team coordination.
Ability to juggle time-sensitive projects while maintaining attention to detail.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Electrical design experience or coursework is a plus.
