Job Description
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Legal Secretary for a prominent law firm in the Lansing area. This position provides comprehensive administrative and legal support to a team of attorneys specializing in corporate law and litigation. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of legal procedures, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Administrative Support
Prepare, revise, and format legal documents including correspondence, contracts, pleadings, discovery, and corporate filings.
Maintain attorneys’ calendars, schedule appointments, court dates, and meetings.
Coordinate travel arrangements and prepare expense reports.
Screen and direct incoming calls, emails, and other communications.
Open and maintain client files both electronically and in hard copy.
Perform data entry, filing, scanning, and general office tasks.
File legal documents with courts via electronic filing systems (e-filing) in compliance with state and federal court rules.
Track litigation deadlines including hearings, discovery, and filing dates.
Prepare and organize exhibits, trial binders, and other court documents.
Coordinate with court personnel, opposing counsel, and clients regarding litigation matters.
Assist with the preparation and filing of corporate documents such as articles of incorporation, bylaws, board minutes, and resolutions.
Maintain corporate records and track key compliance dates.
Support transactional work such as due diligence and document organization for mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate transactions.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a legal assistant or legal secretary.
• Proficiency in handling corporate and commercial legal cases.
• Familiarity with litigation processes and e-filing systems.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment.
• Proficiency in standard office software and legal research tools.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field is preferred.
