A day in the life…

Wondering what a day in the life of an Infusion Center Supervisor at The Iowa Clinic might look like?

Under the direction of the Director, the Infusion Center Supervisor coordinates and supervises patient care, daily operational activities, scheduling of staff, regulatory compliance, patient safety, high standard of customer service, and quality within the Outpatient Infusion Center environment. Ensures efficient and effective Center operations and compliance with regulations, certifications, and policies. This is a working supervisor position. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday you will act in the Supervisor role, and Thursday and Friday working with patients.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Interviews, orients, trains, schedules, supervises, evaluates, disciplines, and terminates staff in compliance with Human Resource policies and procedures. Consistently interprets, applies, and follows Human Resource policies and procedures. Approves, or oversees approving of, employee worked hours and forwards employee and physician payroll information to Human Resources for processing.

In collaboration with Director, assumes accountability for maintaining high-quality, cost-effective services within budgetary guidelines. Schedules and facilitates meetings with staff and physicians regarding the Infusion Center

Receives patients, explains procedures, checks vital signs, and administers therapy, monitors reactions, and reports to physicians

Ensures all appropriate Prior Authorization is complete and documented for proper payment to the Infusion Center

Manages overall daily operational activities of the Infusion Center

Extensive knowledge of departmental processes.

Communicate effectively with Physicians, leaders, and staff

Demonstrates the ability to identify problems quickly and plan for a meaningful solution

Works alongside nursing staff on a regular basis for Infusion Center infusions.

Promotes a positive, professional image of the organization internally and externally

Regularly attends and presents at management and specialty specific meetings

Maintains awareness of own safety in carrying out duties and responsibilities. Adheres to universal precautions and infection control policies and procedures.

Promotes a positive, professional image of the Infusion Center, The Iowa Clinic both internally and externally. Promotes positive interpersonal relations and serves as a role model with all personnel.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with people from diverse professional, educational and lifestyle backgrounds both orally and in writing.

Ability to project a friendly, caring, professional attitude in communication with patients, staff, physicians and the general public.

Ability to read and write legibly and understand/follow written and verbal directions.

Must demonstrate ability to utilize effective decision-making and problem-solving techniques.

Ability to work independently and interdependently.

Requires organizational and self-motivational skills in prioritizing and managing multiple tasks with limited supervision.

Must possess skills to operate business office machines, i.e., computer, fax and photocopy equipment.

Ability to remain calm, cheerful and professional in stressful situations and focused amid constant interruptions in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to retrieve from both alpha and numeric filing systems.

Minimum Job Qualifications

Education: Associate’s degree in Nursing Program required, BSN preferred

Licensure/Certification: RN license, BLS certification (American Heart Association required), ACLS

Work Experience: 3 years RN experience in preferably with Infusion Center

experience or Critical Care experience. Previous supervisory

experience preferred
