What is an Assistant Distribution Operator?
Assistant Distribution Operators (ADOs) work an 8-hour rotating shift in our 24/7 Distribution System Operations Control Room which coordinates the work of personnel engaged in the safe and reliable operation of the electric and gas distribution systems. An ADO must possess the ability and skills necessary to fully operate various software programs that the Company utilizes to monitor and control the electric and gas distribution systems, assess storm damage, assign and dispatch field personnel, and optimize crew and work schedules. An ADO must be able to multitask, communicate effectively to direct field personnel, and collaborate in an interactive team environment.
What does an Assistant Distribution Operator do?
Under direct supervision of a Chief Distribution Operator, Distribution Operator, or Management; prepares, reviews, and executes distribution switching orders in accordance with the Manual of Safe Practices and applicable Distribution System Operations’ operating documents
Under direct supervision, perform the functions of a real-time operating position including but not limited to monitoring the pre and post contingency voltage and power flow parameters of the Electric Distribution system and direct the response for gas emergency on the Gas Distribution system.
Under direct supervision, notifies the Transmission Operators of the operation of joint-jurisdiction devices (i.e. TD devices) for distribution system requirements
Utilizes the Advanced Distribution Management System (“ADMS”) to monitor and operate devices and equipment to maintain established parameters
Assists dispatchers and emergency service representatives in performing tasks in support of the real-time operating position
Performs callouts for additional personnel and completes internal and external reports
Performs other duties of lower classifications as assigned by Management
Ensures the highest level of safe work practices are observed by personnel (including field personnel) to strive for an accident and injury free workplace
Ensures that the MSP and all policies, procedures, and best work practices are followed, to mitigate the occurrence of Operating Errors
Works an 8-hour rotating shift schedule
What does it take to be an Assistant Distribution Operator?
High school diploma or equivalency degree and at least one of the following:
Associate’s degree in Engineering, Mechanical Science or other technology related field (preferred)
3+ years of experience in electric or gas operations or engineering, power plant operations or maintenance, emergency response dispatch, or military, with at least one of the following:
(i) Nine (9) credit hours in Engineering, Mechanical Science or other technology related field
(ii) Military technical training
(iii) Nuclear training
(iv) Other applicable documented training programs
Valid driver’s license

Pay Rate: $49.57/hour to $53.98/hour
