Position Summary
The Senior Cloud Engineer position is responsible for the design, installation, configuration, operation, and administration of a highly available hybrid cloud environment. Working within an agile shared services team, this role ensures stable infrastructure for applications and helps develop and maintain repeatable processes through automation of build, deployment, and proactive monitoring activities.
The ideal candidate will understand developing trends in hybrid cloud technologies and provide technical leadership in implementing solutions that meet business needs. This position requires a solid mix of cloud expertise and on-premise datacenter knowledge, along with the ability to make sound technical and business recommendations, lead collaborative efforts with agile project teams, and provide third-tier support for issue resolution.
The Senior Cloud Engineer should be a subject matter expert in at least two of the following areas: Cloud Computing, Cloud Storage, Virtual Networks, Automation/Infrastructure as Code, Secure Networking, and DevSecOps—within an Azure or AWS environment.
Key Responsibilities
Establish, monitor, and maintain Azure cloud environments, hardware systems, operating systems, and related network/security infrastructure.
Monitor Azure maintenance and outages, assess impact, and develop mitigation strategies.
Collaborate with developers and scrum teams on infrastructure needs and feature deployments; ensure capacity planning is accurate to avoid service degradation.
Build and automate cloud infrastructure using current methods, templates, and toolsets.
Optimize network infrastructure for IaaS, SaaS, and PaaS cloud applications.
Produce and maintain technical documentation for both cloud and on-premise infrastructure.
Troubleshoot connectivity, performance, and security issues; perform root cause analysis and implement resolutions.
Participate in the design and implementation of hybrid cloud architectural roadmaps.
Lead infrastructure design and integration efforts; consult on projects and support solution deployment.
Coordinate with service providers, vendors, and internal teams to resolve infrastructure issues.
Participate in on-call rotation and support after-hours duties as needed.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
Experience
8+ years of progressive experience in computing or network infrastructure.
5+ years of experience working in a cloud environment (preferably Azure) in roles such as cloud network engineer, administrator, or DevOps.
Strong background in building and managing cloud infrastructure.
Proven experience in automation (IaC, Configuration-as-Code) across both cloud and on-prem environments.
Familiarity with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, Puppet, Chef, Azure DevOps).
Ability to contribute to or translate application design architectures into deployment through automation.
Experience with monitoring tools and DevOps practices.
Experience with load balancing technologies.
