Description
Potomac Haven seeks a full-time Network and Computer Systems Administrator to provide system administration and operations/maintenance support for UNIX, Red Hat Linux, and Windows servers and workstations at the U.S. Coast Guard’s Aviation Training Center (ATC) in Mobile, Alabama.

Responsibilities
Plan and coordinate the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of all UNIX/Linux/Windows systems and related peripherals
Support non-standard computing systems used for training in UNIX/Linux/Windows environments
Provide daily support and maintenance for Aviation Training Center (ATC) in Mobile to include UNIX/Red Hat, Linux/Windows servers and workstations; both hardware and software
Manage system resources, including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability
Maintain data backup media on-site and perform proper media destruction in accordance with U.S. Coast Guard policy
Maintain a log identifying media, date of backup, data contained on the backup, and the location of the media
Manage disk space utilization on all servers including monitoring and enforcement of pre-determined user quota limits
Conduct periodic testing of backup media to verify system reliability
Log and maintain records of all major configuration changes and system updates
Maintain current antivirus software on the workstations and servers
Prepare and document system change plans for government approval
Test new hardware for compatibility with existing infrastructure
Maintain and update disaster recovery procedures
Recommend server changes or replacements to the Technical Point of Contact and Contracting Officer Representative for servers that are out of warranty, or near warranty expiration date
Review system, security, and application logs to detect and resolve anomalies
Comply with all DHS and USCG notifications and alerts, implementing necessary actions on affected systems
Qualifications
• U.S. Citizenship is required
• Must possess and be able to maintain an DoD Secret Clearance
• Associate degree (AA) preferred
• Extensive work experience in Oracle Solaris 10 Unix and Red Hat Linux operations and administration
• Experience in installing, managing and troubleshooting Windows desktop operating systems (Windows 7, 10, 11)
• Experience managing and troubleshooting Windows Server operating systems
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience in fast-paced, time-sensitive environments
• Strong technical writing and documentation abilities
• Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills
• High attention to detail and follow-through
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
• Strong skills in requirements gathering and client interaction
• Must communicate with customers, stakeholders, and technical staff effectively
• Ability to physically position oneself to access equipment and transport items weighing up to 50 pounds
