This position is located in Albany, Dougherty County, Georgia with required travel (2 days/week or as needed) to Fitzgerald, Ben Hill County, Warner Robins, Houston County & Fort Valley, Peach County.

Job Description

Pay Grade: G

The Office of Facilities and Support Services (OFSS) provides an enterprise wide, cross-divisional approach to the management of facilities, office space and assets, response to emergencies, records management, risk management, fleet management, and transportation services for the Department of Human Services (DHS). OFSS increases efficiency, eliminates duplication of effort, reduces costs, provides consistency and technical expertise across all DHS Divisions and Offices and enables the department and its' employees to be more responsive to customer needs.

Under broad supervision, performs a variety of semiskilled and skilled building trades work in the repair, maintenance or construction of state buildings and related structures. Installs and maintains security, climate control and other facilities systems. Note: Position may require 24 on-call availability.

Under general supervision, the General Trades Tech 3 performs complex administrative duties and statistical, financial, or operational data analysis and reporting in support of management decision making in functional area. Identifies trends, discrepancies, and variances to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operations. May partner with other departments, divisions, outside agencies, and vendors to address business issues. Exercises various latitudes of independent judgment. May administer or provide high level support for various projects, grants, contracts, implementation of procedures, and/or any specialized functions. Assists with orientation, training or providing task guidance of junior team members.

Role and Responsibilities:

The General Trades Tech 3 specific responsibilities include:

Supervises, guides, and/or instructs the work assignments of subordinate staff.

Coordinates the engineering, maintenance, renovation, and construction of facilities.

Oversees the use of contractors and contracted maintenance employees working on company property and equipment, ensuring they work safely and efficiently.

Reviews plans and conducts on-site inspections to ensure work is performed according to established guidelines.

Works with the available resources and oversees projects, purchases, preventative maintenance and work orders.

Responsible for maintaining an efficient parts and supply inventory.

Manages subordinate supervisors and staff.

Perform such other duties as may be required from time to time.

Must have leadership skills and be able to work well with other employees.

Good work habits and ability to manage time well.

Maintains and promotes a safe working environment.

Design and implement safety programs.

Responsible for addressing facility breakdowns that can occur after work hours, weekends and holidays.

Core Competencies:

Good analytical/critical thinking.

High multi-tasking ability.

Maintains a 24-hour emergency on call availability.

Highly proficient in Microsoft Office programs.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma/GED AND three (3) years of experience in building repairs and maintenance or in the specific area of assignment;

OR

Two (2) years of experience at the lower level General Trades Tech 2 (FET031) or position equivalent. Preferred Skills/Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, demonstrate some or all the following education/skills/experience:

Strong written and oral communication skills.

Technical experience a plus.

Proficient in Microsoft Office programsNote: Some positions may require area-specific certifications/licenses.
