This position will serve as an Engineering Technician I within the District 2 Permitting Unit. This position will perform on-site inspections for compliance with NCDOT standards for driveway connection construction, encroachment construction and subdivision street construction. It will also monitor the illegal use of highway right-of-way for signs, utilities and private activities. This position will assist with collecting field data needed for the review of driveway permits, site plans, utility and non-utility encroachment agreements, subdivision plans, and road additions/abandonments. This position will meet with utility representatives, contractors, property owners, and others to discuss adherence to policies and procedures, answer questions, and address complaints from the general public by telephone, written correspondence, or in person. This position will assist the Division as needed during emergencies and inclement weather. This position will also assist the District Engineer with other tasks as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision
Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments
Experience maintaining standard daily records and reports
Knowledge and skill in the use of computer equipment, iPad and software
Knowledge and understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection,
and /or construction surveying

Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
