JOB TITLE: Performance Dietitian

GOVERNMENT AGENCY & LOCATION:

306th Rescue Squadron

JOB SUMMARY:

The Performance Dietitian provides guidance and counseling on nutritional practices to enhance recovery and optimize performance for AFSPECWAR personnel, with the priority on Operators and Direct Combat Support personnel. The Dietitian shall perform administrative and clinical duties within their scope of practice. The Dietitian shall provide and perform the following services in support of HPO’s HP program for AFSPECWAR personnel, with the priority on SOF Operators and Direct Combat Support Personnel.

EDUCATION and CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Possess a masters’ level degree in Nutrition Science or related field.

Hold certification from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) as a Registered Dietitian (RD). Hold a specialty certification as a Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD). CSSD certification may be waived if all other qualifications are met; however, the Dietitian shall earn the CSSD within six months of employment if waived, at their expense.

Possess a current and valid state certification/licensure. Certification as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and/or documented experience in human performance research, and experience working with AFSPECWAR is desired, but not required. Possess a current certification in basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) to include Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide nutritional planning, counseling, and documentation that is guided by evidence-based peer-reviewed literature.

Advise the chain of command on issues pertinent to nutrition and performance nutrition.

Work within their scope of practice, which may include ordering labs.

Provide individual and group counseling for guidance on performance nutrition.

Design and implement performance nutrition programs for SOF personnel in home station, Temporary Duty (TDY), and deployed settings.

Develop nutritional protocols and guidelines for rehabilitation and performance.

Collaborate with the Government HPO Program Manager and/or Coordinator for implementation of new protocols and guidelines.

Serve as an advisor on dining facility and/or galley nutrition and liaison between the base food services and squadron leadership.

Assist other regional AFSPECWAR assets as required by the HPO program Manager and/or Coordinator and approved by the chain of command and 355 CONS.

Attend and participate in meetings with other HPO staff members and medical personnel as requested and/or required.

Serve as an advisor on, supplementary nutrition, supplements, and performance enhancing substances within the HPO program.

Attend required training in accordance with guiding instructions. Squadrons will allow for attendance at necessary conferences or courses to complete continuing education units required to maintain certification.

Maintain 100% compliance with local mandatory command training requirements.

Ensure adequate educational materials and sports nutrition specific supplies are available.

Assist with supply inventories. Provide input on supply needs.

Ensure that equipment and facilities under the purview of the Performance Dietitian are in safe working condition and are properly utilized.

Ensure that records are updated as required. Participate in periodic in-service training for members of the HPO Staff.

Perform administrative duties, which may include maintaining records of workload, and participating in education programs.

Participate in peer (record) reviews as directed and required.

Develop and promulgate training materials as requested and required by the HPO program Manager and/or Coordinator.

Perform other tasks, within the scope of the Performance Dietitian position description, as assigned by the HPO program Manager and/or Coordinator.

Document work performed, utilization, encounters, referrals, and all other information in the Military’s Electronic Health Record (i.e., AHLTA, MHS GENESIS, etc.) and/or the HP Enterprise-wide database (e.g., Smartabase, etc.), as directed by HP program Manager and/or Coordinator.

Collect and report all data as requested by the HPO program Manager and/or Coordinator.

Proficiently utilize computers, software, and technologies as required and requested by the HPO program Manager and/or Coordinator.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

A minimum of 3 years or more of demonstrable accumulated experience (continuous and sustained experience preferred) as a Performance Dietitian with individual athletes and groups of athletes at the levels of NCAA Collegiate, Olympic, professional sports, and/or SOF Operators in the accompanying, respective settings.

SALARY: Commensurate based upon experience.

POSITION INFORMATION: This will be a full-time position, Monday through Friday, excluding Federal Holidays.

POSITION TIMING: Immediate hire upon completion of all background and security investigations.
