Ambulance Coder (Onsite)
Location: Phoenix, AZ 85008 (Relocating to 85281 area in September 2025)
Schedule: Flexible hours between 6:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Pay Rate: $24 – $35 per hour (DOE)
Medical Coding Certification or 5 years EMS Coding experience
OR
2 years experience in EMS Coding with a Coding Certification
Key Responsibilities:
Review EMS patient care reports and assign accurate ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS codes and modifiers
Ensure coding compliance with federal, state, and payer-specific regulations (e.g., CMS, HIPAA)
Collaborate with billing teams to resolve claim denials, rejections, and documentation issues
Conduct internal audits and identify discrepancies or errors in coding and documentation
Communicate with EMS providers to clarify reports and gather missing information
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of EMS coding guidelines and industry changes
Accurately enter coded data into billing software or EHR systems while safeguarding patient information
Requirements:
Certified Medical Coder, open to minimum of 5 years experience in EMS coding in lieu of a certification.
Minimum of 2 years of hands-on EMS coding experience required.
Medical Coding Certification.
Strong knowledge of EMS billing guidelines and compliance standards.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Proficient in EMS coding software and Microsoft Office tools.
