Pool Managers are Lifeguard-certified staff who also hold a Fairfax County approved Pool Operator license. Management performs all the duties of a lifeguard and operator with the added responsibilities of coordinating and delivering weekly staff meetings, attendance at regularly scheduled management meetings, tracking employee performance, issuing employee citations, creating bi-weekly staff schedule for their pool, and teaching/training the staff assigned to their pool. Their operator role includes monitoring the facility operating condition to ensure compliance with all applicable codes including sanitizer and pH levels, bather load, water balance, flowrate/turnover requirements, and documentation. As lifeguards, they are safety-minded monitors of the pool environment, preventing injuries and incidents through effective surveillance and emergency response, and meeting and exceeding all customer expectations from friendly pass scanning to responsive cleaning and tidying. They provide a welcoming environment, are knowledgeable of all pool programs and activities, and are the public face of Reston Aquatics. The ideal candidate is energetic, out-going, diligent, confident, and well-spoken.
Job responsibilities include; filling the staff schedule for their assigned pool, attending regular meetings with Leadership and professional staff, delivering weekly staff meetings and running training scenarios, completing weekly facility review, placing supply orders, testing and adjusting water chemistry within scope of training, delegating tasks to other staff on shift, supervising daily facility operations, maintaining a hazard-free environment, enforcing facility policies fairly and consistently, participating in regular practice of their rescue skills and knowledge, providing effective surveillance and back-up coverage in rotation, facility admission processing, retail sales (select facilities only), providing information to customers, routine cleaning, completing reports and forms, assisting customers with equipment, and initiating emergency care and notification of EMS system for life-threatening emergencies, using appropriate protective equipment and standard precautions when exposed to bloodborne pathogens.
All work is performed in an outdoor environment near and around recreational water.
Requirements
Age 17+ by July 1st
2+ years work experience
Confident, mature, and well-spoken
Able to provide quality customer service for a diverse population
Current American Red Cross certification in ‘Lifeguarding’
Current certification in Bloodborne Pathogens Training (provided upon initial hire)
Current Fairfax County approved Pool Operator license
Commitment to full-time hours for 8+ weeks of the operating season
Current, prior, or ability to obtain certification in nationally recognized swimming or Water Safety instruction.
Ability to support a floating adult in shallow water, ability to support oneself in deep water without a floatation device.
Commitment to 2+ Group Lesson sessions or 3+ clients from the Association’s interest list for private or semi-private lessons.
Ability to move 50lbs, hear whistle alerts from 50 yards, and see hand gestures from 25 yards. Corrective eyewear or assistance devices are permitted.
