Reports To: Controller / Senior Project Accountant

Position Overview

Promethean Builders is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Project Accountant to support our growing construction operations in New York City. This role is vital in managing the financial health of assigned construction projects from start to closeout. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Procore, Sage 300 (Timberline), and Intacct, and a solid foundation in staff accounting practices. The Project Accountant will serve as a key liaison between the project management, operations, and accounting teams.

Key Responsibilities

Project Accounting

· Monitor project budgets, commitments, costs, change orders, and forecasts in coordination with Project Managers.

· Prepare and review monthly Work-in-Progress (WIP) reports.

· Maintain accurate cost tracking, billing, and revenue recognition for assigned projects.

· Review subcontractor/vendor invoices for accuracy and compliance with contracts;

· Ensure timely processing.

· Track lien waivers, insurance certificates, and subcontractor compliance documentation.

· Support monthly project review meetings and report financial status to stakeholders.

· Coordinate project setup and closeout procedures in Procore, Sage 300, and Intacct.

Billing & Revenue

· Prepare and submit Owner billings (AIA format, cost-plus, GMP, T&M, etc.) accurately and on schedule.

· Monitor collections and follow up on outstanding receivables

· Ensure timely processing of subcontractor and vendor pay applications.

Staff Accounting

· Assist with monthly general ledger close, journal entries, and reconciliations.

· Participate in audit preparation and provide project-specific documentation.

· Help manage cash flow reporting and forecasting across active projects.

· Collaborate with the finance team on intercompany transactions, accruals, and reclasses as needed.

Required Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.

· 3–5 years of experience in construction accounting, preferably with a general contractor.

· Proficiency in Procore, Sage 300 (Timberline), and Intacct is required.

· Strong understanding of GAAP and project cost accounting principles.

· Experience with AIA billing, subcontractor compliance, and job costing.

· Solid Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis).

· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work across departments.

· Ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience with NYC-based public or private construction projects.

· Knowledge of union labor tracking and certified payroll (optional).

· CPA or construction accounting certification (a plus).
