PHP Developer (United Kingdom)

Contract Length: 12 months (extensions available)

Work Location: Remote – Monthly travel to UK offices, travel expenses paid

Seeking an experienced software developer with strong PHP skills, a solid background in JavaScript, DevOps practices and modern testing frameworks. You will play a key role in the design, development, and delivery of robust, user-centric digital services that meet the needs of users.

You will work collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams & multiple projects.

Responsibilities:

Lead enhancements and support for system upgrades within large-scale public sector platforms

Build secure, high-performing applications that comply with GDS and accessibility standards

Develop and maintain APIs to enable integration with internal services & third-party providers

Write and maintain automated tests, ensuring reliability through integration with CI pipelines

Maintain deployment workflows using containerisation tools and continuous delivery practices

Use Git-based workflows to manage source code and collaborate effectively within teams

Participate in agile delivery: sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives

Conduct code reviews and promote clean coding practices to support knowledge sharing and team improvement

Required:

Active SC clearance

Strong in PHP development (especially Drupal 10 & WordPress)

Experienced use of JavaScript/TypeScript & Node.js

Testing experience with Cypress & ability to build and maintain automated test suites

Working knowledge of DevOps practices: Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and CI/CD pipelines

Comfortable working across both front-end (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and back-end systems

Experience with version control systems - Git

Strong understanding of GDS principles

Desired:

Understanding of cloud platforms (AWS & Azure)
