SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:
The PCB Designer III is responsible for creating, developing, updating, and refining printed circuit board (PCB) layouts based on electrical engineering schematics and mechanical constraints. You will work closely with engineers, product developers, and manufacturers to ensure that the final designs meet performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Design and develop multilayer PCBs using industry-standard EDA (Electronic Design Automation) tools (e.g.) Altium Designer, KiCad, Cadence Allegro, Mentor Graphics).
Collaborate with electrical engineers to interpret schematics and translate them into PCB layouts.
Perform component placement, routing, signal integrity analysis, and design rule checks (DRC).
Create and maintain detailed manufacturing documentation including Gerber files, BOMs (Bill of Materials), assembly drawings, and fabrication notes.
Conduct DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and DFA (Design for Assembly) reviews with the manufacturing team.
Incorporate mechanical, thermal, and EMC/EMI considerations into PCB layouts.
Participate in design reviews and recommend improvements and optimizations.
Work with vendors and contract manufacturers during the prototype and production phases to troubleshoot and resolve design issues.
Maintain libraries of PCB footprints and symbols according to internal standards.
Design or modify existing designs to develop or improve products or facilitate manufacturing operations. POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Technology, or related field.
4+ years of experience in PCB design for commercial, industrial, or consumer products.
Proficiency with one or more PCB design software platforms (e.g., Altium Designer, OrCAD, Allegro).
Strong understanding of high-speed design principles, controlled impedance routing, power distribution, and grounding techniques.
Familiarity with IPC standards (e.g., IPC-2221, IPC-7351).
Familiarity with Engineering Change Order processes within an ERP system (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QAD).
Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience with rigid-flex or flexible PCB designs.
Knowledge of RF PCB design techniques.
Experience with 3D CAD tools for mechanical integration (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360).
Certification such as IPC Certified Interconnect Designer (CID) is a plus. SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Excellent communication skill
Detail Oriented
Good organizational and multi-tasking skills
Problem Solving/Analysis
Time management and task completion skills
Team Player
