Job Title: Development Coordinator

Reports to: Director of Development

Supervises: No Supervisory Duties

ORGANIZATION SUMMARY

Facing Forward to End Homelessness (Facing Forward) ends the cycle of homelessness for families and individuals by offering hope, help, and housing. We first ensure that our clients have a safe, stable home, and then we empower them as they lead a forward-facing life. We also offer case management, healthcare, referrals for substance abuse treatment and mental health issues, education, and job training. Facing Forward gives the tools our clients need to reclaim their lives.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Development Coordinator is a key member of the Development team, responsible for supporting all components of development. This position provides administrative support to the team, collaborates on fundraising strategies and plans, manages projects, and can grow along with the team. The Development Coordinator will serve as the staff member in charge of the donor database, maintaining the integrity of donor, funder, and volunteer information and the organization’s donation records.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Fundraising (35%):

Work closely with the team to create and execute fundraising strategies with excellence.

Provide day-to-day reporting on fundraising revenue and progress toward goals.

Support Director of Development with fundraising efforts through donor research, donor outreach and communications, and moves management tracking.

Maintain and improve all individual, corporate, foundation, and faith-based donor records.

Prepare materials to support fundraising efforts, such as slide presentations, donor impact reports, and more.

Conduct individual, corporate, and foundation prospect research to grow Facing Forward’s base of support.

Drive progress toward increased individual and corporate giving by collaborating on and enhancing cultivation and stewardship efforts; conduct donor outreach, make thank you calls, and ensure recognition.

Lead list management and prepare mail merge and collation for all development mass mailings, such as the annual appeal direct mail solicitation, strategically segmenting donors.

Support and assist with monitoring fundraising plans and activities of the Board, Fundraising Committee, and Associate Board.

Assist with foundation grant proposals and reports as needed.

Assist with special projects to advance Development team goals and continued fundraising growth

Donor Database Management (30%):

Process and input data for all individual, corporate, foundation, and faith-based gifts and pledges, including online donations, into donor database (Little Green Light).

Monitor monthly gifts and pledge payments and manage a regular reminder process.

Manage and improve donor acknowledgment process, including the generation of acknowledgment letters and thank you calls.

Collaborate with the Finance team to ensure accurate tracking and reconciliation of donations.

Develop custom reports to evaluate donor base, analyze progress, and inform strategies.

Become the department database expert and lead the database data quality improvement process.

Create and maintain donor database manual.

Marketing and Communication (10%):

Work closely with the team to execute marketing and communications strategies with excellence.

Assist with compelling content to share the mission of Facing Forward with our external audience, through communications like the Annual Report, newsletters, one pagers, website content, brochures, and other communications.

Work closely with the Communications and Events Manager to execute our social media, email marketing, and website strategy to grow our online presence and increase engagement with our community.

Maintain MailChimp email subscriber list and all integrations and automations with donor database.

Draft correspondence and coordinate responses to requests as needed.

Events and Volunteers (10%):

Assist with special events planning, logistics, communications, set-up and breakdown, and attendee follow-up. Represent Facing Forward at events, creating a positive guest experience.

Work with the team to coordinate donation drives and in-kind donations (Holiday Gift Drive, Back to School, Housewarming baskets, etc.)

Explore new opportunities for volunteer engagement and recognition, in collaboration with Communications and Events Manager.

Administration (15%):

Provide direct administrative support for Director of Development and Executive Director’s fundraising activities as needed, including scheduling, meeting support and follow-up, weekly action reports management, and other duties.

Provide support for meetings, including scheduling, distributing meeting materials, preparing audio-visual equipment for presentations, ordering catering, and recording minutes.

Actively participate in staff meetings

Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Certification, License

Bachelor’s degree in business, liberal arts, communications, nonprofit management, or similar degree (or equivalent experience)

Experience:

1-2 years development, business, clerical or data entry experience preferred

Knowledge of nonprofits and fundraising a plus

Skills and Abilities:

Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to ending homelessness in Chicago and the following:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact professionally and positively with a variety of stakeholders, including board members, donors, staff, volunteers, and clients in Facing Forward programs

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, One Drive, etc.), website and digital marketing tools

Strong work ethic and integrity

Goal-oriented and results-driven

Detail-oriented with an ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team

Experience with fundraising donor database or CRM software (Little Green Light, Raiser’s Edge, or similar) preferred

Eagerness and the ability to learn new methods, skills, and tools.

Creative, resourceful, and innovative problem-solver

COMPENSATION

Salary range is $46,000 - $52,000 depending on experience and skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed remotely and in a typical office work environment.

Sitting for extended periods is required. Intermittent physical activity, including standing, walking, and bending. Normal manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication is required.

Business hours are 9 am-5 pm, Monday-Friday, evening and weekend work may be required.

WORK SCHEDULE This is a hybrid work position, with on-site responsibilities at our two office locations as well as remote workdays, regular business hours of 9am-5pm. On-site weekly scheduling discussed and approved by the hiring manager.

Attendance at meetings and events is occasionally required in the evenings and weekends.
