GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the general direction of the Health Information Manager, the HIM Specialist is responsible for assembly and analysis of all health records, tabulation of statistical data, performance of release of information and participation in the quality management process. All work is carried out in accordance with the department’s approved policies.
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
Medical Secretary Degree from an accredited institution. Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT). Experience in lieu of education may be considered.
SKILL(S):
Good organizational skills, excellent investigative/analytic skills with detail orientation, and strong follow-through capabilities.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to effectively problem solve, develop working relationships and assist those who need help.
Must be able to meet deadlines, work independently, set priorities and maintain confidentiality.
Ability to work calmly and efficiently in high-pressure situations.
Intermediate knowledge of human anatomy, physiology and medical terminology highly preferred.
Intermediate skills using Windows-based software, familiarity with information technology.
EXPERIENCE:
Prefer one (1) year of Medical Secretary and/or related healthcare documentation experience.
Epic EMR experience preferred.
