The Ohio State University Department of Astronomy is seeking a Post Doctoral Scholar to collaborate with Professor Yuan-Sen Ting on statistical studies of the Galactic halo using Gaia and DESI data. The department has a substantial presence in the DESI collaboration. Responsibilities will include performing theoretical analysis of the non-isotropic nature of the Galactic halo through semianalytic methods and simulations, analyzing Gaia and DESI datasets, and preparing research findings for publication.
Required Education: Doctoral degree in Astronomy, Astrophysics or related area required by time of hire.
Required Qualifications: Experience in Galactic structure and halo dynamics is preferred. Candidates with expertise in related fields such as stellar populations or Galactic archaeology will also be considered. Strong background in analyzing large astronomical datasets is essential, particularly in characterizing non-isotropic distributions and spatial-kinematic properties using Gaia and/or DESI data. Proficiency in statistical and machine learning methods applied to astronomical surveys is highly valued.

The salary range for this position is $61,008-$67,500, with actual compensation determined by internal equity, candidate qualifications, and available funding. The position is for up to three years contingent upon satisfactory performance.
