Senior Controls Engineer – Industrial Automation & Manufacturing

Location: Casa Grande, AZ

Employment Type: Contract

Experience Level: Mid-Senior

Industry: Industrial Automation / Automotive / Advanced Manufacturing

As a Senior Controls Engineer, you will be instrumental in developing and optimizing state-of-the-art control systems for industrial automation. You’ll collaborate with equipment suppliers and cross-functional teams (Engineering, Quality, Production, and Maintenance) to deliver innovative automation solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Act as the subject matter expert in industrial controls, defining standards for conveyance, material handling, robotics, and other manufacturing applications.

Design and program PLC/HMI systems (Allen-Bradley/Siemens) using Ladder Logic, Structured Text, and Function Block.

Lead SCADA/Ignition integration, including scripting, database connectivity, and real-time monitoring.

Develop safety-compliant control systems (ISO 13849, ISO 10218) with safety relays, light curtains, and robotic safety interfaces.

Collaborate on electrical hardware design, including power distribution, control panels, and industrial networks (Profinet, Ethernet/IP).

Integrate equipment with MES/SCADA systems and drive OEE improvements through data analysis and optimization.

Manage the full project lifecycle, from conceptual design and supplier collaboration to commissioning and production launch.

Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

2-5 years of experience in controls engineering, preferably in automotive or high-volume manufacturing.

Expertise in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and SCADA systems (Ignition preferred).

Proficiency in industrial robotics (Fanuc, KUKA, ABB) and machine vision systems.

Strong knowledge of industrial protocols (Profinet, Ethernet/IP, IO-Link) and safety standards.

Experience with Python, C#, SQL, and CAD tools (AutoCAD, CATIA) is a plus.

Willingness to travel up to 25% for supplier collaboration and equipment commissioning.
