Job Type: Full Time
Experience Level: Mid-Level (4-6 years)
Salary: Competitive Salary based on your experience
Schedule: Wednesday – Sunday Typical work week (** some flexibility here **)
US Citizen / Permanent Resident Job Requirement
Position Summary
The Electronics / Electrical Engineer will play a key role in the design, analysis, and development of various UAV electronic products and test set ups. This role requires a strong analytical mindset and proficiency with schematic design and PCB layout using software like Kicad or Altium. In addition, you will perform troubleshooting and testing of electronic designs, writie HDL code, and develop various automated UAV test set up using software like Labview. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure innovative, efficient, and high-quality electronic solutions are integrated with UAV systems.
Key Responsibilities
Electronic System Design: Conceptualize and develop electronic systems for small UAV platforms, including power distribution, communication interfaces, and control circuitry. Create analog and digital circuit solutions that meet performance requirements in compact, lightweight packages.
PCB Design & Prototyping: Generate schematics and Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layouts using electronic design tools (e.g., KiCad, Altium Designer). Oversee PCB fabrication and assembly, then perform board bring-up to verify functionality using electronic laboratory equipment. Ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability and assembly (DFM/DFA) from prototype to production.
UAV Power Systems: Design, Analyze and manage various UAV’s power systems. Calculate power budgets, select components for power regulation and distribution, and ensure stable operation of all electronics. Use circuit simulation tools (LTspice or equivalent) to validate designs under various conditions and load cases.
Embedded Systems Integration: Integrate microcontrollers, sensors, actuators, and possibly Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) into the UAV’s electronic architecture. Support firmware development and hardware description language efforts (VHDL/Verilog) to ensure seamless hardware-software integration for flight control and payload management.
Testing & Troubleshooting: Lead the testing of electronic hardware in the lab and during field trials. Utilize oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analyzers, and other test equipment to debug and troubleshoot circuits and system-level issues. Develop and utilize test setups (potentially using LabVIEW or script-based tools) to validate performance, reliability, and compliance of various UAV systems.
Documentation & Compliance: Produce detailed engineering documentation, including design specifications, schematics, test plans, and reports. Maintain rigorous documentation of design changes and test results. Ensure all designs meet relevant industry and military standards and support any required certification processes.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with mechanical, aerospace, and software engineers to achieve fully integrated UAV systems. Participate in design reviews and iterative development, ensuring electronic components seamlessly fit with overall system design and mission requirements.
· Project Management: Write technical reports for projects, document, and present project status and results to various stakeholders, provide technical direction to external vendors.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related STEM discipline.
5+ years of professional experience in electronics hardware design, development, and testing.
Proficiency with electronic CAD/EDA tools for schematic capture and PCB layout (such as KiCad or Altium).
Hands-on experience with PCB prototyping and use of electronics lab equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters) for testing and troubleshooting.
Solid understanding of power electronics and ability to perform circuit simulations (LTspice or similar) for design validation.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) or equivalent, to support technical documentation, reporting, and presentations.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with a methodical approach to diagnosing complex hardware issues.
Effective communication skills – able to clearly explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and produce thorough documentation.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, taking ownership of tasks and delivering on schedule.
