Job Responsibilities:
The Senior Editor for News is an integral member of the editorial team, working with the Editor-in-Chief to deliver an unrivalled news aggregation service for app users.
Responsibilities include:
Curation of our client’s News aggregation app includes breaking news alerts, compiling briefings and researching deep dives on topical issues.
Utilize real time data to extract insights and guide editorial decision-making and content placement.
Identify issues relating to impartiality, undue partisanship and fake news, and filter out any content that breaches our editorial standards.
Guide and supervise curation by junior editors during news shifts to ensure standards are maintained.
Understand, and be the guardian of, the editorial tone of voice for our client’s News.
Work with Editor-in-Chief to build and manage shift schedules to ensure seamless editorial operations across multiple time zones and countries.
Develop positive working relationships with content partners and other teams within our client, including giving/receiving feedback.
Occasional out-of-hour shift work is essential in this role, as it is a willingness to respond to unpredictable breaking news events. Working patterns will include early mornings, evenings and weekends.
Qualifications:
8+ years working as a journalist in US newsrooms, with hands-on News desk experience essential.
Prior experience driving user engagement through content curation preferred.
Up-to date legal and compliance knowledge of US/Canadian news media landscape essential, with a willingness to upskill on UK media law.
Strong analytical skills and well versed in the use of data to draw editorial conclusions.
Proven experience supervising junior editorial colleagues preferred.
Detail-oriented, with the ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines.
Thrives in past paced business environment with the ability to adapt to change.
Bachelor's degree in a related field required. MBA or other related advanced degree preferred.
