Mainframe Storage Lead

Position Summary:

As a Mainframe Storage Lead at Nationwide Insurance, you will play a pivotal role in delivering both standard and customized technology solutions that align with architectural standards, business requirements, and technology roadmaps. This role requires hands-on experience with IBM z/OS storage platforms, specifically DS8000, CICS, and Immutable Copy technologies. Strong leadership and project ownership skills are essential, though coaching will be available for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead storage strategy and support across IBM z/OS environments.

Manage and optimize DS8000 storage systems and implement Immutable Copy solutions.

Provide leadership and mentorship to technical teams (leadership skills can be coached if technical foundation is strong).

Drive planning, implementation, and support for projects like:

VTL Refresh

Safeguarded Copy deployment

Cyber Vault initiatives

Collaborate with Architecture, Engineering, and Vendor teams to implement innovative storage solutions.

Ensure compliance with security protocols and enterprise storage policies.

Deliver proactive and reactive monitoring and troubleshooting across mainframe environments.

Conduct performance tuning, proof-of-concept testing, and system documentation.

Must-Have Qualifications:

3+ years of experience in mainframe storage, specifically with IBM z/OS and DS8000.

Experience with CICS in a mainframe environment.

Hands-on involvement in implementing or supporting Immutable Copy and Safeguarded Copy technologies.

Proven ability to take ownership of tasks and run complex projects independently.

Strong understanding of storage architectures and data protection technologies in enterprise environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with VTL (Virtual Tape Library) technologies.

Knowledge of Cyber Vault tooling and forensic recovery practices.

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Prior exposure to leadership, coaching, or mentoring technical teams.

Familiarity with Nationwide’s tech ecosystem is a plus.
