Pay Rate: $24.00/hour
We are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Legal Document Proofreader for an exciting opportunity with a prestigious AM200 law firm. In this quality assurance role, you will play a key part in reviewing and editing legal and business documents to ensure clarity, precision, and strict adherence to the firm’s formatting and citation standards.
This position requires a sharp eye for grammar, consistency, and legal accuracy, along with the ability to work efficiently under deadlines. You’ll collaborate with attorneys, editors, and other team members to ensure every document meets the highest professional standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Proofread and edit a wide range of legal documents, including briefs, proposals, contracts, and reports
Correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and formatting errors with speed and precision
Ensure consistent use of legal citation styles (e.g., Bluebook) and firm-specific style standards
Use Acrobat markup tools or traditional proofreading symbols to indicate necessary edits
Review documents for structure, tone, clarity, terminology, and defined terms
Confirm alignment with formatting protocols and maintain consistency throughout
Collaborate with attorneys and editors to enhance document clarity and legal accuracy
Conduct light research as needed to support fact-checking and content validation
Provide clear, actionable feedback to improve writing quality
Ensure all final documents are client-ready, polished, and professionally presented
Qualifications and Skills:
Strong command of English with exceptional grammar, punctuation, and spelling
2+ years of experience in proofreading, copy editing, or legal writing preferred
Familiarity with legal style guides (e.g., Bluebook) and formatting standards
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office and editing tools (e.g., Adobe Acrobat)
Comfortable working with complex or lengthy legal content
Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize effectively
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or Law is a plus
Experience in proposal writing is a bonus
