Job Summary: The Community Outreach Liaison is responsible for supporting Animal Humane Society’s efforts to help underserved, low-income populations access resources for their pets. This client-facing role aids in the execution of programs that bring pet food, supplies, accessible veterinary care, and temporary pet housing to pet families in need, with the goal of keeping pets with the people who love them.

Salary: $19-21 per hour based on experience

Schedule: Full-time; 40 hours per week

Primarily Monday-Friday during business hours; weekends and evenings needed

Location/Remote Capabilities: This position is a hybrid position. Must be able to regularly travel between our Twin Cities locations (primarily St. Paul) and surrounding area. Must be able to successfully work remotely. Subject to change as business needs dictate.

Interview Process: Phone interview followed by 2 department interviews. Successful completion of a motor vehicle background check required.

Essential Functions

Outreach:

Connect community members with AHS Community Outreach programs, such as free pet food and supplies, access to veterinary care, and temporary pet housing.

Boost awareness of these programs by proactively seeking out and regularly attending community events, meetings, and presentations.

Coordinate internally across AHS departments and externally with social services partners to support and promote Community Outreach programs.

Maintain and update the Community Outreach events calendar, working with other AHS departments to ensure appropriate staffing at events.

Identify and strengthen relationships with social services partners, communities, and community leaders to holistically address the needs of people and their pets.

Serve as a partner to and advocate for community members; actively listen to their needs and help identify gaps in outreach programs.

Develop and maintain working relationships with social services partners to allow for bilateral referrals for services.

Be comfortable interacting with a diverse range of people and personalities.

Approach community members with respect, empathy, and an open mind.

Communication and Culture:

Communicate in a positive and professional manner with customers, external partners, other AHS employees, and volunteers.

Promote a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion to make AHS a welcoming environment for all.

Prioritize client communication and respond in a timely and consistent manner.

Provide written updates and articles for the Community Outreach newsletter and internal communications channels.

Technology:

Clock in and out of shifts using ADP.

Monitor AHS email and other messaging software.

Learn and utilize other AHS software (i.e. Pet Point, Hybrent, IAMS) as needed to execute Community Outreach programs.

Other duties as assigned.

Additional Information:

Schedule and Attendance:

Regular, predictable attendance, punctuality, and availability to work during operational hours.

Attend and participate in regular team meetings, all staff meetings, and one-on-one meetings with direct leader.

May be required to work at a different site based on department needs.

May be required to attend occasional off-site meetings and events.

Work Environment:

Primarily office/desk based.

Adjacent animal shelter areas may be humid, noisy, or odorous.

Requirements

Qualifications

Experience:

1+ years of customer service and/or community organizing experience required.

Experience working with low-income or underserved communities preferred.

Ability to communicate in Spanish, Hmong and/or Somali preferred.

Skills:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.

Strong administrative and process management skills.

Strong multi-tasking and problem-solving skills.

Proficient with computers, specifically a working knowledge of Microsoft products.

Physical Demands:

Prolonged sitting at a desk.

Must be able to lift, carry, and handle items up to 50 lbs. unassisted. For items over 50 lbs., assistance from another team member is required.

Emotional Demands:

Must be comfortable with the emotional aspect of work in an animal shelter environment, including the use of humane euthanasia.

Transportation:

Reliable transportation required.
