KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Sand, grind, and clean various substrate surfaces (metal, plastic, acrylic, wood) to ensure smooth, contaminant-free surfaces.

Fill imperfections using body fillers, putty, or other repair materials as needed.

Mask and tape off areas not designated for painting, ensuring clean lines and protection.

Apply primers, sealers, and corrosion inhibitors according to manufacturer specifications.

Maintain awareness of appropriate cure times and material compatibility.

Inspect surfaces after and after preparation to ensure quality standards are met.

Report any defects or potential issues to the Paint Lead or Production Supervisor.

Safely operate sanders, grinders, spray guns, and other prep equipment.

Maintain tools in proper working condition through regular cleaning and minor repairs.

Follow all safety protocols including the proper use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as respirators, gloves, and protective clothing.

Comply with hazardous material handling procedures and environmental regulations.

Coordinate with the painting team to ensure readiness and scheduling alignment.

Assist painters and production staff as needed to meet production goals.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Experience in surface preparation, sanding, and priming (automotive, industrial, or signage industry experience preferred).

Strong understanding of surface materials and how they react to various prep techniques and coatings.

Basic knowledge of painting equipment and proper masking techniques.

High attention to detail and commitment to producing clean, high-quality work.

Ability to follow detailed work instructions and standard operating procedures.

Familiarity with safety practices related to painting and prepping materials.

Physical ability to lift heavy parts (up to 50 lbs), perform repetitive motions, and stand for long periods.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift and carry materials, tools, and signage components up to 50 pounds.

Standing and Movement: Stand, walk, and work in a production environment for up to 8–10 hours a day.

Reaching and Bending: Frequent reaching above shoulders, bending, kneeling, crouching, and twisting.

Repetitive Motions: Use of hands and arms to sand, mask, clean, and spray materials for extended periods.

Environmental Exposure: Work involves exposure to paint fumes, solvents, dust, and occasional loud noise; appropriate ventilation and PPE are provided.
