What You'll Do:
The Bureau of Vital Statistics operates a statewide system for the registration of births, deaths, and other vital events that happen within the state of Ohio. We are currently seeking an experienced customer service specialists to provide information and communicate procedures to obtain or amend vital records. This job entails the following tasks:
Make telephone calls & emails stakeholders to inform them of changes to Ohio's vital record system
Provide technical assistance to electronic data users (e.g., local health departments, coroners, funeral homes, hospitals) to properly enter & complete enrollment information in the electronic birth/death registration system
Research & respond to customer inquiries for requested information; prepares & sends information to customers (e.g., training documents, access requests, applications, clarifying information letters)
Protect the privacy of confidential VS records & handles emergency requests from the director's office, governor's office & others (e.g., legal requests, expedited delivery)
Review submitted paper death worksheets & contacts the listed physician to enroll them through the electronic pathway.
This position will report to 4200 Surface Road, Columbus, Ohio, working in office Monday - Friday during core business hours.
This position falls within the unclassified civil service status. Employees in the unclassified civil service of the state of Ohio serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority and may be removed from their unclassified position at any time for any legal reason.
9 mos. trg. or 9 mos. exp. in office practices & procedures AND 9 mos. trg. or 9 mos. exp. in public relations or customer service that included techniques for handling difficult people AND 9 mos. trg. or 9 mos. exp. in typing, keyboarding, data entry or word processing AND 9 mos. trg. or 9 mos. exp. in operation of personal computer.
