Position Title: GM / Senior GM – Operations

Location: Pondicherry

Reports to: Senior Vice President

Role Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Head of Academics Books Division. This leadership role involves overseeing academic content development, quality control, client engagement, team management, and ensuring adherence to international educational standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background, deep knowledge of the US/UK academic education systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to grow the academic business unit.

Analyze market trends, client needs, and competitive landscape to identify new opportunities.

Collaborate with senior leadership/sales teams to align business objectives with organizational goals.

Team & Operations Management:

Manage, mentor, and scale a diverse team of subject matter experts, instructional designers, editors, and academic reviewers.

Oversee workflow processes, set KPIs, and ensure high standards of quality, accuracy, and on-time delivery.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as production, design, and technology.

Client Relationship Management:

Serve as the point of contact for major US/UK publishing clients.

Understand client needs and translate them into actionable deliverables.

Ensure long-term client satisfaction through strong quality and service excellence.

Quality Assurance & Compliance:

Maintain rigorous quality standards and peer-review processes.

Ensure compliance with international academic and copyright norms.

Regularly audit deliverables and implement training programs.

Financial Management:

Collaborate with the sales and marketing teams to acquire new clients and expand business with existing accounts.

Achieve the planned revenue profitability as per the business plan.

Own the budget plan, build relationship with clients and grow the business year-on-year.

Innovation and Technology:

Identify and implement tools and platforms to streamline processes and improve efficiency.

Qualifications:

15+ years of academic publishing or educational content experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated experience in client-facing roles and managing large-scale academic projects.

Proven expertise in handling academic publishers

Experience managing cross-functional teams and large-scale client accounts.
