The Opportunity
The Memphis Grizzlies are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Manager of Security and Risk to oversee the identification, assessment, and mitigation of risks all facets of FedExForum. This role will ensure the safety of players, staff, and fans, protect organizational assets, and maintain compliance with league regulations, local laws, and industry standards. The Manager of Event Security and Risk will collaborate with internal departments such as Facilities, Operations, Team Security, Legal, Human Resources, Finance, and Guest Experience, as well as external partners to safeguard the team’s reputation, financial stability, and operational success.
In This Role You Will
Maintain working relationships with other FedExForum Departments, government entities (MPD, MFD, etc.), NBA, medical personnel, and Security Contract Services.
Identify potential risks related to employee safety, arena operations, fan experience, and overall organizational risk.
Develop and implement comprehensive risk management strategies to minimize exposure.
Work with brokers, adjusters, TPAs, defense counsel, and the Legal department to ensure claims are handle in timely manner for arena accidents.
Ensure compliance with NBA regulations such as drone compliance, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, and local/state safety codes.
Assist in developing emergency response plans for the arena and employees.
Collaborate with Arena Operations teams to assess and mitigate risks during home games, including crowd control, severe weather protocols, and medical emergencies.
Implement policies to reduce workplace hazards for arena staff. Manage inventory of safety equipment.
Develop and execute crisis response plans, including natural disasters, public relations incidents, or operational disruptions. Conduct post-incident analyses to improve future preparedness.
Review contracts with vendors, sponsors, and partners to identify and mitigate liability risks. Ensure third-party compliance with FedExForum management standards.
Design and deliver risk and safety management training programs for staff, including topics like safety procedures, emergency protocols, and liability awareness.
Provide regular risk assessment reports to senior leadership, including recommendations for policy updates or resource allocation.
Build and implement program to evaluate and increase development, training, and culture.
Work within the rotation of Manager on Duty responsibilities for events within FedExForum.
Receive and resolve complaints from guests, clients, and employees according to established policies and procedures.
Coordinate all incidents that occurred during an event with the Building Security Manager and maintain records including incident management reports for the Security Department.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Arena Security.
The Experience You Will Bring
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
5-7 years sporting arena event experience or law enforcement experience
Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality
Presents self in a professional manner and can interact with all levels of the organization and outside contacts.
Strong project management skills.
Interpersonal skills –listens to others, and works well in a team environment.
Excellent communication skills including written and verbal; ability to present ideas clearly and concisely.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules.
Planning and organizing, can prioritize work activities; uses time efficiently.
Adaptability – adapts to change in the work environment, manages competing demands and is able to handle frequent changes.
Dependability – consistently at work on time, follows instructions, responds to manager’s instructions.
Strong computer skills – including all Microsoft Office software programs.
Be customer-service oriented, without compromising the security of the facility, and always have a fan-friendly attitude and a professional appearance.
Ability to regularly stand, walk, talk, hear, use hands to handle or feel, and climb stairs. Position could place the applicant in situations that may require the use of physical force to resolve situations.
Occasional lifting of boxes or equipment such as fire extinguishers
Flexibility to work extended and/or irregular hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays for games and events, as needed.
Nice to Have:
Knowledge of sports and entertainment, specifically NBA basketball.
