About this Opportunity

Brunswick County is seeking a dedicated Lead Public Health Nurse to join a team of healthcare professionals committed to delivering quality health services to the public. This role focuses primarily on Care Management for High-Risk Pregnancies (CMHRP) and Care Management for At-Risk Children (CMARC), supporting staff with the tools, training, and guidance needed to succeed. This role is responsible for maintaining program compliance, implementing quality improvement initiatives, and fostering strong partnerships with medical homes, community agencies, and healthcare providers across the region.Program Overviews:

CMHRP (Care Management for High-Risk Pregnancies) provides education, care coordination, and support to Medicaid-eligible pregnant individuals identified as high-risk, addressing medical needs and social determinants of health to improve birth outcomes.

CMARC (Care Management for At-Risk Children) offers comprehensive care coordination for children ages 0-5, ensuring access to medical care, community resources, and family support services. Each child is linked to a Medical Home and supported by a dedicated Care Manager.The ideal candidate will demonstrate tact, courtesy, discretion, and fairness in interactions with the public, while effectively using excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to promote public health. Additionally, the ability to work with a diverse population is essential.

This position involves potential exposure to communicable diseases and bloodborne pathogens, along with the usual hazards associated with nursing work. The schedule may include occasional evenings, weekends, and emergency response duties (such as staffing county shelters).

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing with one (1) year of professional nursing experience; or

Associate’s degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing with three (3) years of professional nursing experience; or

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license from the North Carolina Board of Nursing required

CPR certification required

Valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License required

Successful completion of the North Carolina Credentialed Public Health Nurse Course (per State Guidelines) is preferred at the time of hire but shall be completed as directed by the NC Office of the Chief Public Health Nurse

Physical Requirements

Must be physically able to operate a variety of office equipment and medical equipment including needles and syringes, sphygmomanometer, stethoscope, etc. Must be able to exert up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
