We’re looking for a motivated Permit Technician to join our team. In this role, you’ll help process building and site disturbance permits while supporting customers, contractors, and internal staff throughout the permitting process. What You'll Do
Working under general supervision, you will perform a range of semi-technical and professional duties, including:
Reviewing building plans and site plans for completeness
Coordinating permit application packages and supporting documents
Responding to public inquiries on zoning, building codes, design criteria, permit fees, and more
Issuing permits for residential projects such as decks, garages, and home additions
Explaining inspection procedures and assisting with notarized documents and receipts
Collaborating with Building and Planning staff to verify property details
Scanning, filing, purging, and maintaining accurate records
Communicating with local, county, and state agencies
You’ll also assist front desk staff as needed and play a key role in maintaining excellent service for the public
What We’re Looking For:
We’re looking for a dependable and detail-oriented professional who brings:
Knowledge of construction practices, materials, and terminology
Familiarity with International Code Council (ICC) codes and related regulations
The ability to read and interpret building plans and site maps
Strong organizational and communication skills
A proactive, team-oriented attitude and commitment to excellent customer service
Do You Have What It Takes?
High school diploma or GED
At least one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Valid driver’s license (or ability to obtain one)
Eligibility for coverage under county insurance policies
Must obtain ICC Permit Technician Certification within six months of hire
