Description
The successful candidate will primarily perform the duties of a dispatcher and at times the role of a uniformed Safety and Security Officer.
This position is responsible for greeting the public and members of the Husson University community, receiving calls for service from university community members, and communicating their needs to the on-duty officers as needed. This position utilizes University databases and systems and may serve as a liaison to Husson IT Department and vendors for CCTV and other security technology used by the safety and security team.
The Campus Security Team is responsible for the comfort, safety, and security of the students, faculty, staff, and visitors to Husson University. Security Dispatch and Officers maintain a safe environment and minimize the potential for loss or damage of all property controlled by Husson University by conducting high visibility patrols on foot and in University-owned vehicles, monitoring CCTV equipment, and monitoring radio communications. Dispatch/Officers provide a wide variety of services to our campus community, and are expected to proactively seek opportunities to provide excellent customer service. Additionally, Dispatchers receive community complaints and dispatch officers to calls for service. Dispatchers also monitor all CCTV equipment, and field questions for the university community during walk-in interactions, and serve as an ambassador to the safety and security team.
Dispatch and Security Officers enforce Husson University rules and regulations, the Community Conduct Code, and coordinate with law enforcement in enforcing state statutes. Security Officers recognize potential safety concerns and take measures to mitigate these concerns. Security Officers respond to disturbances and mitigate disruptive conduct, respond to emergencies as needed, and coordinate with all local, county, and state agencies as necessary to maintain the safety of Husson University.
Examples of Duties
High school education or equivalent required.
At least 6 months of security, military, or law enforcement experience is preferred.
Must have attention to detail and respond promptly and professionally when necessary
Be able to prioritize, organize, and follow up when needed
Have a clear command of the English language and be able to complete computer-generated reports
Be a clear thinker, display the ability to remain calm, and show good judgment when resolving problems
Follow directions thoroughly, speak and interact with students, staff, and visitors as necessary
Work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team
Work with minimal supervision
Maintain confidentiality of departmental and University information
Safely operate motorized vehicles, bicycles, and other department-owned equipment
Must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the state of Maine
Must be certified or have the ability to be certified in First Aid, CPR/AED, and other equipment as assigned.
