This position will be a part of the Digital Forensic Program within the GBI investigative Division; however, position will be housed/located in Metter, Georgia.

The selected candidate will be required to meet the residency requirements of the assigned Southeastern Regional Drug Enforcement Office in Metter, Georgia.

This is a sensitive government position.

Job Duties

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under close/general supervision, assists in investigating criminal activity by performing digital forensic examinations of data stored on electronic devices. Documents and reports findings of examination for requesting law enforcement agencies. Maintains knowledge of current technology and best practices to extract digital data in an accepted technical manner that ensures the preservation of or prevents the destruction of potential evidence. The incumbent's responsibilities will consist of providing expert testimony in court regarding electronically stored information. In addition, provides technical guidance and assistance to law enforcement officials involved in investigations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Conducts forensic examination of electronic devices including computers, mobile devices, and other digital data storage media.

Uses software and hardware forensic tools to extract, preserve, analyze, and present evidence for further investigations or testing.

Assists law enforcement in the preparation of search warrants, investigative information, and cases for court purposes.

Provides on-scene technical support and assistance during the execution of search warrants.

Provides support in examination and digital investigation techniques for law enforcement and other legal entities.

Serves as subject matter expert on technical matters relating to digital evidence and testify in court or at hearings as an expert witness in the area of digital forensics.

Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Three (3) to four (4) month training period is required. The candidate will be required to report to the GBI Headquarters building at 3121 Panthersville Rd, Decatur, Georgia, for the training period.

Incumbent is required to establish residency in your area of assignment or reside within a twenty-five (25) miles radius of your assigned regional boundary.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The incumbent will occasionally be required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop and kneel. Occasionally light lifting/or moving boxes or supplies may be required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position requires the incumbent to work in an office setting which includes shared office space with other workforce professionals. In addition, may work closely with other law enforcement agencies and entities. This position reports into the office daily.

Fundamental knowledge of data recovery.

Demonstrated experience in working with computers and other digital media.

NOTE: This position may require some travel and operating a state vehicle. A valid Georgia driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer forensics, cybersecurity, computer information systems, digital forensics, information technology or related field.

OR

Completion of an undergraduate degree from an accredited four-year college or university AND two years of experience in a law enforcement capacity in digital investigations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

In addition to the minimum qualifications, preference will be given to applicants with work experience in the following:

Experience in examining computer evidence in a forensic/law enforcement environment.

Forensic certifications such as CFCE, GCFE, or experience working with Magnet Axiom, Cellebrite Physical Analyzer/Inseyets, Open Text EnCase, or other forensic software.
