Non-tenure, pending availability of funds and actual staffing requirements.

Evening, weekend, distance education, television and or off-campus classes for UH Maui College and or Outreach sites (Lanai and Molokai) may be assigned as part of regular workload.

This is NOT a remote position – job requires in-person work.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Teach assigned courses in the discipline qualified for

Maintain a minimum of one office hour per week for each course taught

Prepare course syllabi, grading, and reports related to teaching and student progress

Work under the supervision of discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area

May include instructional assignments involving distance education

Under general supervision, teach a range of pre-college and college-level Automotive lecture and laboratory courses

Work with colleagues and independently to develop curriculum and to identify, plan, develop and implement learning strategies to meet student, special population, college and community needs

Participate in the automotive/auto body program advisory committeeincluding assistance with NATEF certification.

Minimum Qualifications:

As listed below. All minimum qualifications must be from an accredited institution and met by the effective date of appointment. If qualified applicants are not available, those not meeting the minimum qualifications may be considered on an exception basis

Bachelor's Degree in Automotive Engineering or Industrial Education AND three (3) years related work experience AND Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification in all areas to be taught

OR

Associates Degree in Automotive Engineering or Industrial Education AND five (5) years experience AND ASE certification in all areas to be taught

OR

15 college credits AND seven (7) years experience including training AND ASE certification in all areas to be taught

Desirable Qualifications:

Ability to use writing assignments and integrate teaching of appropriate thinking skills into course content as an integral part of student's classroom learning activities

Teaching experience, preferably in a community college, in Automotive Technology courses

Strong background (academic and/or professional experience) in automotive technology

Knowledge of computers and their applications to automotive vehicles, teaching laboratory work

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others and to communicate clearly

Experience in working with people from various social, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and with diverse academic interests and abilities

Knowledge of and experience with alternative delivery modes of instruction.
