This position is responsible for assisting the VP of General Counsel in providing legal counsel, advice, and representation on a diverse range of issues, including, but not limited to: federal, state, and gaming regulatory compliance; employment law; vendor contracting; federal, state, and liquor regulatory compliance; tort claims; and loss prevention. In addition to providing legal advice, the Associate General Counsel will provide policy guidance to senior management and other employees, will assist in finding solutions to legal/business problems, and will assist in developing business strategies to address business and regulatory objectives and policy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

AGC will be responsible for oversight of the company’s sportsbook regulatory compliance functions

Studies statutes, decisions, and ordinances to interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for Affinity Gaming.

Interprets and applies jurisdictional gaming regulations, as necessary, advising senior management of current and pending amendments or additions to legal issues.

Examines legal data to determine advisability of defending or prosecuting lawsuit.

Serves as an agent of the corporation in various transactions, including contracts, lease agreements, insurance, infractions of governmental regulations, and other matters.

Represents corporation in litigation and other legal proceedings.

Advises department heads based on sound legal judgment.

Advises corporation concerning transactions of business involving internal affairs, stockholders, directors, officers and corporate relations with general public.

Prepares business contracts and administers other legal matters.

Prepares various other agreements on behalf of the company including nondisclosure agreements, real estate documents, financing and outsourcing agreements.

Researches legal questions and performs research as required.

Drafts separation and employment agreements, and handles other employment matters as needed.

Maintains daily contact with guests and legal counsel representing guests regarding transactional agreements and other legal issues.

Strictly adheres to all company policies and procedures at all times. Enforces internal policies as necessary.

Maintains a current knowledge of programs, promotions, and all property and company activities.

Displays a positive and productive attitude at all times with customers and staff personnel.

Dresses in a professional manner at all times in accordance with company and departmental appearance standards.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Affinity Gaming policies and applicable laws.

Ensures the health, safety and welfare of all team members and visitors within area of control.

Ensures all relevant sections of the Health and Safety Management plan are implemented and understood.

Consults with team on any proposed changes that may affect occupational health and safety at the workplace.

Assesses and reviews the effectiveness of the OSHA Management System and ensures appropriate corrective actions are implemented.

Ensures accident and incident investigations are conducted to determine causes and takes appropriate corrective action as required.

Ensures injured workers are rehabilitated and an early return to the workplace is achieved.

Ensures compliance with all relevant health and safety legislative requirements.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree from accredited university and JD degree required. A minimum of five years of related experience and/or training and knowledge of gaming law, employee law, labor relations or related fields preferred.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical, financial and legal documents, journals and publications. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from guests, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Must be able to use a computer keyboard, calculator, etc.

Must be able to review and comprehend all necessary documentation.

Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of employees as well as outside contacts.

Review, comprehend and respond to all necessary department information.

Communicate effectively with all levels of employees, as well as all outside contacts.

Observe and direct actions of subordinates.

Manage and supervise subordinates.

Make sound decisions on a timely basis, through objective evaluation of available information.

This position requires a Gaming License and must be licensed to practice law in Nevada.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents, such as policy and procedure manuals, maintenance instructions, and other related documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries from other employees or guests. Fluency in English.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense reasoning to variety of situations.
