Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Senior Staff Accountant to join our Finance team. The Senior Staff Accountant will play a crucial role in maintaining financial records, preparing reports, and performing daily accounting tasks to ensure accurate financial transactions. This position will work closely with the Accounting Manager and Director of Finance to support the overall accounting functions and contribute to the company's financial health.

Key Responsibilities:

1. General Ledger Maintenance & Financial Record Keeping:

• Journal Entries: Prepare and post daily, monthly, and year-end journal entries, ensuring proper classification and accurate reporting of financial transactions.

• Account Adjustments: Identify and make necessary adjustments to accounts, ensuring accuracy in reporting.

• Account Reconciliation: Perform monthly reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts (bank, accounts receivable, accounts payable, etc.), ensuring that discrepancies are identified and resolved in a timely manner.

2. Financial Reporting & Analysis:

• Monthly and Quarterly Reporting: Assist in the preparation and review of financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow), ensuring compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).

• Variance Analysis: Analyze and report on variances between actual performance and budgeted/forecasted results. Prepare supporting documentation for management’s review.

• Year-End Reporting: Assist in preparing year-end financial statements and schedules for auditors and tax preparers.

3. Accounts Payable and Receivable Management:

• Invoice Processing: Review and process vendor invoices for payment, ensuring accurate coding and approval per company policies.

• Accounts Payable: Maintain records of outstanding payables, schedule payments to vendors, and ensure timely payment processing.

• Accounts Receivable: Assist in managing accounts receivable by preparing and reviewing invoices, monitoring collections, and working with the collections department to reduce overdue balances.

• Credit Memos and Adjustments: Handle credit memos, rebates, and adjustments as necessary.

5. Budgeting and Forecasting Support:

• Budget and Forecast Preparation: Assist with the creation of annual budgets and monthly reforecasts by compiling financial data and offering insights based on historical data

6. Internal Controls and Process Improvement:

• Internal Controls: Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures, assisting in the prevention of errors and fraud.

• Process Improvement: Identify inefficiencies in accounting processes and collaborate with team members to streamline processes and improve accuracy and efficiency.

7. Ad-hoc Financial Projects:

• Provide assistance on special projects, financial analysis, or other tasks as required by the Accounting Manager or Senior Accountant.

• Participate in the development of new accounting policies or system enhancements to support the company’s growth.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• Experience:

• 3-5 years of accounting experience, with a solid understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.

• Experience using accounting software (e.g., PVNG, Opera, Micros) and advanced proficiency with Excel.

• Attention to Detail:

• Strong analytical skills with a high level of accuracy in financial documentation and reconciliations.

• Communication Skills:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to explain complex accounting concepts to non-financial stakeholders.

• Organizational Skills:

• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining high levels of accuracy.

Preferred:

• Hospitality/Hotel Industry Experience

Physical Requirements:

• Sitting/Standing:

• The position requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Occasional standing and walking are required to attend meetings or perform tasks around the office.

• Lifting/Carrying:

• Occasional lifting or carrying of office supplies and files, generally up to 25 pounds. Ability to transport small files or documents between departments or to meetings.

• Dexterity:

• Frequent use of hands for typing on a keyboard, using a mouse, and handling documents.

• Visual and Auditory:

• Ability to read and interpret data, reports, and financial documents for extended periods. Good hearing ability for phone communication and meetings.
